Stephen Miller wages war on the GOP’s libertarians
The Hill ^ | 06/10/2025 | Emily Brooks

“He can’t be as honest and candid as he was with me when he didn’t have Donald Trump as his boss,” Massie said. “He’s got his job is to sell this bill, and he’s trying to put lipstick on a pig, and Rand Paul and I are pointing out it’s a pig.”

This drama is exhausting. As a somewhat casual observer, it seems that some of the Republicans are making the perfect the enemy of the good.

Trump got you losers this far, let him have his way and see where it goes.

It is also the first budget in 12 years.

How many other pig bills have they voted for previously?

No it’s not, it’s a reconciliation bill. There hasn’t been a budget in good order since the 90s (1997 to be exact) - everything since then has been either a continuing resolution or a reconciliation bill.

Congress has basically been dysfunctional since the 70s budget act (’74) only passing a budget in good order and on time 6 times. Everything else has been continuing resolutions and omnibus spending to prevent shut downs.

True blue libertarians are as weird as Marxists, who also are focused on their abstract ideas. The bill has non-trivial spending cuts. The votes aren’t there for much larger cuts.

But, since they want much larger cuts, they therefore wouldn’t be true to their libertarianism if they voted for it. IOW, their libertarianism leads them to block the actual spending cuts contained in the bill, resulting in more spending, not less.

The more I look at the reality of what is happening in our nation the more clear it is that we are and have been at war. Worse, many of the enemy combatants are embedded in our society. We can’t afford to be shooting at each other (figuratively) while the real enemies are waving foreign flags and burning ours, within our own borders.

Make love with the pig, not war. Look, she’s wearing extra lipstick. Lots extra!

Close your eyes and jump to your death.

Men must be men. Fight! It flavors sausage, properly.

Going after tariffs designed to bring about fair trade and complaining about spending money protecting the border are not libertarian positions.

Rand Paul has sold his soul to globalists and Wall Street Republicans.

Yes, when ideology is allowed to work against the nation’s interests, it seldom ends well.

Yeah, only now that Trump is POTUS did they decide to not vote on a porkulus bill. Massie, Paul and their ilk are truly feckless grandstanders.

Well the pig has tax cuts and border provisions we must have. The Republicans know it must pass. It will pass.

Sure, there’s disagreement, but the writer is just turning up the heat and stirring the pot, trying to make a story about not much of anything.
