The Ukraine war won't end until NATO withdraws troops from the Baltics, a top Russian official has warned.
Sergei Ryabkov, Russia's deputy foreign minister responsible for U.S. relations, nonproliferation and arms control, made the remarks in an interview with state-run news agency Tass.

Here’s how I would read that, at least on its face.
We wont give up on Ukraine unless you let us green light our aggression in the Baltics too.
How in the world would I agree to that except out of pure weakness?
Do not worry about duplicate posting of important news. I did not see this news before, so all good. Don’t have time to read every thread posted. There are so many new everyday.
Establishing a maximal negotiating position. This sounds like a prelude to entering into serious peace talks.
Yeah, there’s the nail in the coffin of the “Russia isn’t a threat to the rest of Europe” argument. This has always been about Putin’s dream of restoring the Russian Empire, and why Russian aggression must always be resisted.
Yes. The response is always of the: She hit me with her face against my fist type argument.
Europe was historically weak when Russia invaded Ukraine.
Yet, the Russian narrative is NATO was planning to invade Russia.
“Yeah, there’s the nail in the coffin of the “Russia isn’t a threat to the rest of Europe” argument. This has always been about Putin’s dream of restoring the Russian Empire, and why Russian aggression must always be resisted.”
When someone is nipping at your heels, eventually the predator turns around to bite. I think the west is more afraid Putin(Russia actually since they will push Putin to respond) will finish in The Ukraine with enough left over to start looking at the people who instigated then financed and supplied weapons to while waging economic war (sanctions) to weaken Russia while arming a proxy to fight. I’m sure Russia is willing to forgive and forget.
Exactly, and if it wasnt already obvious, this is where NATO and the US need to say enough is enough, the aggression wont stand. Sorry, we’d like to be friends, we’d like to save some bucks now, but not at the expense of a new and expanding Russian/Soviet like threat. I have no problem spending money to supply Ukraine with arms to kill this bear.
Never going to happen. In fact, Putin has confirmed why NATO troop strength and resources will move further east.
Russia: “We really liked when we held the Baltic nations prisoner after WWII. And have you seen the Estonian women? Va Va Voom! So, yeah, we need to take them over too.”
We should tell them to abandon Kalingrad. See what they think of that.
Neither of these things will happen.
Typical Russian negotiations: You agree on everything, then they ask for something outrageous. It’s like dealing in an Arab bazaar.

Are you daft? Russia and peace talks are an oxymoron. 🤣
"As a precondition, you let me sleep with your wife every second Thursday, and then we can talk about ending our dispute over my dog peeing on your lawn."
That sounds "serious" to you?!
Russia has no veto right when it comes to NATO membership.
Regards,
Putin “Let me plan my next war of conquest against the Baltics and I will let the ceasefire in Ukraine proceed. I don’t care that I am killing thousands of Russian young men”
Putin has all the sincerity and trustworthiness of Kevin Spacey in this clip.
Regards,
It’s not something Russia expected to get. It’s something they can “give” in negotiations.
Interesting take considering this is exactly how this all started. NATO reneging on a treaty with Russia was a had idea with the usual “UN-intended” consequences that the UN always seems to blunder into. But WHO cares... Right?
Actually, I think the West either forgiving or forgetting what Russia did shouldn't be on the table regardless. We should always - always - remember exactly what Russia is, which is an aggressive, expansionist nation that believes to its core that it has the right to dominate "lesser" peoples around it.
Sanctions shouldn't end until, at a minimum, Putin himself is no longer in power.
Always.
Always.
