Trump EPA rollbacks would weaken rules projected to save billions of dollars and thousands of lives

When the head of the Environmental Protection Agency announced a wide-ranging rollback of environmental regulations, he said it would put a “dagger through the heart of climate-change religion” and introduce a “Golden Age” for the American economy.

What Lee Zeldin didn’t mention: how ending the rules could have devastating consequences to human health.

The EPA-targeted rules could prevent an estimated 30,000 deaths and save $275 billion each year they are in effect, according to an Associated Press examination that included the agency’s own prior assessments as well as a wide range of other research.

It’s by no means guaranteed that the rules will be entirely eliminated; they can’t be changed without going through a federal rulemaking process that can take years and requires public comment and scientific justification.

But experts say the numbers are conservative and that even a partial dismantling of the rules would mean more pollutants such as smog, mercury and lead — and especially more tiny airborne particles that can lodge in lungs and cause health problems. It would also mean higher emissions of the greenhouse gases driving Earth’s warming to deadlier levels.

“More people will die,” said Cory Zigler, a professor of biostatistics at Brown University who has studied air pollution deaths from coal-fired power plants. “More of this type of pollution that we know kills people will be in the air.” It’s by no means guaranteed that the rules will be entirely eliminated; they can’t be changed without going through a federal rulemaking process that can take years and requires public comment and scientific justification.

The Greenies see their end of empowerment for Marxism ending. Capitalist free economy is on the way back, and IT’S GOING TO MAKE US DIE !

Poppycock.

If the left greenies stopped smoking weed and eating cannabis gummies, they would live a lot longer.

“the EPA-targeted rules could prevent an estimated 30,000 deaths and”
Me not eating beans could prevent “an estimated” 30,000 deaths from air pollution. It’s just an estimate though. Bean-eating countries like Mexico have lower life expectancy. So that’s all the proof we need. Ready to publish my research paper.

Well if it’s life expectancy you’re after, men live an average of 76 years while women live to 83 years so if you wanted to transition . . .

Deaths from coal pollution - do they have any proof of any of those deaths being from coal pollution? I’m sure that some are, but if you don’t establish each case, then it’s but an estimate. And if the estimate comes from a government agency whose existence depends on finding demons (like the EPA), then by golly, they will find numbers to support their moves to go at those demons.

Exactly my thought. But also this: the heartwarming yet completely irrelevant pictures of the experts’ children. How come they’re all suffering from significant medical conditions, including the obese boy lying on the bed. There’s something not right about that

Gaia Worshipers wailing and moaning that we will not be sacrificing our economy to Gaia.

Everybody sees what that is doing for the German, British and Spanish economies.
