Russia told Ukraine at peace talks on Monday that it would only agree to end the war if Kyiv gives up big new chunks of territory and accepts limits on the size of its army, according to a memorandum reported by Russian media.

ISTANBUL, June 2 (Reuters) - Russia told Ukraine at peace talks on Monday that it would only agree to end the war if Kyiv gives up big new chunks of territory and accepts limits on the size of its army, according to a memorandum reported by Russian media.

The terms, formally presented at negotiations in Istanbul, highlighted Moscow's refusal to compromise on its longstanding war goals despite calls by U.S. President Donald Trump to end the "bloodbath" in Ukraine.

Ukraine has repeatedly rejected the Russian conditions as tantamount to surrender.

Delegations from the warring sides met for barely an hour, for only the second such round of negotiations since March 2022. They agreed to exchange more prisoners of war - focusing on the youngest and most severely wounded - and return the bodies of 12,000 dead soldiers.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan described it as a great meeting and said he hoped to bring together Russia's Vladimir Putin and Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskiy for a meeting in Turkey with Trump.

But there was no breakthrough on a proposed ceasefire that Ukraine, its European allies and Washington have all urged Russia to accept.

Moscow says it seeks a long-term settlement, not a pause in the war; Kyiv says Putin is not interested in peace. Trump has said the United States is ready...

Hey "Z"....don't call it surrender...

Look at it this way...

You have a pair of 4s and Russia has a full house.

Zelensky is just the monkey. The organ grinders are in Brussels and Berlin.

Presumably, Russia isn't entertaining the idea of limits on the size of its army, so that's just a guarantee that Russia will come back in a few years and wipe a weakened Ukraine off the map completely.

That's a non-starter.

All this rah rah going on with this latest operation remember who’s administration this planning started under - yes Biden. Zelensky went under the authority of Biden’s blessing and by the Axios retraction Trump was not informed of it. Imagine that!

Ukraine's attack on Russia's airfields was 4-of-a-kind.

Aside from the fact that you hate Biden and think the war in Ukraine is Biden caused, what specific war crimes is Zelensky guilty of.

The knowledgeable world knows that Ukraine has taken great lengths to fight a war with the Russian military and no Russian civilians

This dispute must be settled on the battlefield to ensure a lasting arrangement. The notion that an unconditional ceasefire has to precede negotiations is historically unique and downright ludicrous, and would only buy time for Kiev to rest, rearm and reposition to forestall its inevitable collapse. Many bad people seem desperate to save Ukraine and their own hides along with it, given their financial ties to nefarious activities there dating back to 2014. Not to mention all those bio-weapons labs that Tulsi Gabbard, RFKjr, Tucker Carlson and others have talked about, and which Russia has documented to the UN.

In the end, I suspect much of what was recently Ukraine will revert to Poland, Hungary, Romania and Russia, leaving Ukraine as a landlocked, neutral rump state made up of a few oblasts around Kiev. Moscow will take back its Novorossiya stretching from Odessa to Dnipro, Kharkov and Sumy. Perhaps a Russian "Monroeski Doctrine" with neutral borders might be the only way to achieve a lasting peace. But it doesn't matter what I think, so we'll see what happens...

Tass have published Russia’s memorandum, which it refused to hand over to Ukraine until the peace talks in Istanbul today.

The demands basically amount to surrender, regime change, and putting Ukraine back in Russia’s grip. They are:

1) Ukraine withdraws from four partially occupied regions (Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia) and lets Russia have them. “International recognition” follows.
2) Ukraine pledges never to join any military alliances or coalitions (NATO etc). No foreign boots on the ground or military infrastructure either.
3) Any current or future efforts to this end are rolled back or banned.
4) No nuclear weapons for Ukraine.
5) Caps on Ukraine’s military. Far-right units are disbanded.
6) “Full guarantee of rights for Russian speakers.” Russian becomes an official language.
7). Ban on “glorification and promoting of Nazism and neo-Nazism.” Nationalist parties and groups are disbanded.
8) All western sanctions are lifted. No sanctions can be introduced in future either.
9) “Resolution of issues” with family reunification and displaced persons.
10) Both sides agree not to demand reparations.
11) Ukraine rolls back its restrictions on the Russian Orthodox Church.
12) Full restoration of diplomatic and economic relations, “including gas transit,” as well as transport and “other ties, including with third countries.”

The Russians know Zelensky and the EU don’t want peace.<P.

Thus, the Russian military will end this war.

Ukraine either takes any peace deal it can get or it will no exist. Too bad, so sad if the later ends up being the case.

There is no national interest in Ukraine so either back Trump walking away and get on the Trump Train or get on the tracks.

One Oreshnik missile in the general vicinity of the globohomo, high-heeled, dancing puppet ought to do it.

No, it won’t. You are thinking way too “top down”.

Besides, IF Russia uses a nuke-armed Oreshnik (the only efficient way to use Oreshniks - otherwise the Russians are better off using their conventional / standard missiles and such), this war gets worse.

Much worse. :-(

They don’t need a Mach 12 missile to be carrying a nuke to cause massive damage. That’s the point.

But MY point is that Oreshnik is inefficient when used with conventional or kinetic warheads: All factors considered, Pooty gets more bang for the buck from an equal cost batch of conventional missiles than from an Oreshnik.

This doesn’t even consider the 50% failure rate of Oreshniks so far.
