The US president no longer cares about the near-term political consequences of his actions, says the former senior official in an interview in Washington.
Few people know the inside of U.S. Republican administrations as well as John Bolton, who has worked on foreign policy in every one of them since the days of Ronald Reagan. Under George W. Bush, he served as ambassador to the UN, and in Donald Trump’s first term, he served as National Security Adviser for 18 months—“a record for that administration,” he recalls with a laugh. The relationship didn’t end well: Bolton, like many other senior officials in that administration, left before getting ousted. In 2020 he published The Room Where It Happened, about his time in the White House during that period, a move that got him on Trump’s blacklist. The former senior official believes it’s quite possible that the U.S. president will end up withdrawing permanently from the peace negotiations over Ukraine to focus on some other global hotspot where he expects quicker results. “What he wants is the Nobel Peace Prize” no matter what, Bolton ventures.

You can take ANY argument and flip it on itself.
For example, in Iraq 2003 you can take the idea of "taking the fight to the enemy" and claim, there was no AQ in Iraq until after we invaded.
Indeed, the MSM did this.
The point being that this is rhetorical and speculative in nature. They are pretending to read Trumps mind and know his true motivation (spinning it negative), which even if true would still be the right thing to do.
The positive spin of the same argument is: Trump is a billionaire, a name known around the world even before his first presidency, someone who was surrounded by the most beautiful women on earth. He already has everything which people like Biden were still chasing while in office. Trump is concerned about building a lasting legacy, a monument to himself by which he is remembered long after he is gone, and as such willing to do the right thing, even if that goes against the powers to be (they have no control over him).
The other positive spin of what was presented as a negative, is that results oriented people understand time, resources and costs, they manage risk and eventually cut their losses when things prove to be a resource drain with no real ROI. If brokering peace in Ukraine becomes a waste of time, move on and focus your efforts somewhere else where you can bring about a positive change.
Besides the reciprocal nature of the negative spin by Bolton and this author, the other aspect to consider is that in such cases your motivation matters little.
Results count. If you work for me, I do not care what your motivation is. Maybe you like the lady sitting next to you in the cube, or you simply want the money, you possibly could feel like you're making a difference and helping people, the job might have a moral (charity for the poor) or patriotic/community nexus (fireman). It really does not matter and I truly do not care. Show up Monday morning and do your job. Trying to take away from the good something does by trashing the persons motivation is what "low-lives" do. It does not matter if you want to cater to intellectuals with your paper, or if you were a former White House staffer and National Security Advisor, you're a low-life for engaging in this.
“Will no one rid us of this meddlesome bureaucrat?”
If there’s anything I hate, it’s world peace achieved for selfish reasons!
Bolton is a commie who has been on the take for his entire career and he hates us.
Bolton wants the now totally lame Norwegian Piece Prize.
This is the difference between the insulated class and everyone else.
The DC crowd can only think of what (of their own made-up awards) someone might want or of their own internal approval.
Trump, and we, want actual peace. The state where people are building stuff and not breaking it. Never mind some froo-froo award.
If it’s any consolation John we can give you the “Satanic War Prize”.
I am the walrus, goo-goo g’joob
It’s remarkable what turds these people turn into once they’ve been excluded from the DC cocktail circuit.
What Bolton wants is to get his mug on a cereal box, like Wilford Brimley.
I think Bolton just wanted to be recognize as a warmonger. Trump had him figured out.
Bolton is the go to neocon Warhawk
On his knees blowing whoever likes his cowboy tuff guy talk
All hat no cattle though
Zero conflict actual experience
John would settle for a gold medal in the Pride Month gay-stache, senior category.
You opinion is more worthless then you are, John Boy Bolton.
Bolton sux and everything he says is just as important as saying “Blah Blah Blah”
And?
I was wondering when Walrus Boy would show up.
Put him on a plane and let him fight for Ukraine
What John Bolton wants is the “burn the world down in perpetual war, death and destruction” award.
Stupe John B
