Little remains of the historic Nottoway plantation home in Iberville Parish after a fire reduced the 160-year-old mansion to rubble on Thursday.
Charred pieces framework had fallen to the slab, with soot surrounding the once grandiose property. The prominent white columns that supported the roof were mostly gone.
White Castle officials are investigating what caused the fire and have begun combing through the remains.

Must destroy all traces of past history!
I suspect that is the motivation behind arson.
You still think I'm going overboard pushing for mass-availability of open source Founding-related audio books?
We need these audio books and we need them badly. I'm all ears to other suggestions for things that we can do, we, I can do, without relying on a magical "somebody else".
MY wife and I stayed there years ago when we did a plantation tour of Louisiana. It was a lovely place.
Town was downright creepy, though.
It won’t be the last one to burn.
Just as, we will see more statue toppling again in the future. That's not over either.
So what is going to replace this stuff?
Dunno. I remember its electrical system being worrisome 20 years ago.
Had those push button switches and knob-and-tube wiring mixed with modern wiring without junction boxes.
So, no matter what they say, you’re going to believe it was arson, right?
Why did they let them put a White Castle there?
I do not trust progressives.
I do trust that erasing history is something progressives need for their survival.
Jewish lightning ...
FWIW, I tried a lot of arson cases back in the day and actually have a certificate from GA Tech in arson investigation. The circumstances (fire started on an upper floor, employees reported smoke shortly before fire was discovered) are very typical for an electrical fire. Add to that the likelihood that a building this old has a patchwork of old knob-and-tube incompetently connected to modern 3-wire, and I’ll take that bet.
Point of origin and fire source/accelerants are very easy to determine.
All the big bad talking is from anonymous idiots on the internet who would probably set themselves on fire if they tried to burn a place down (in the trade, we call them “crispy critters”).
BINGO! I suspected the same. That’s a fire just waiting to happen. See my post immediately above.
To declare arson, I think you need more evidence that just what you happen to ‘distrust’.
An upper floor fire is not characteristic of arson. I am sure there is some satisfaction among the Marxists that notice but that doesn’t mean arson. Hell, I worry about my home’s 75 year old wiring but cannot get any electrician to touch it.
“Cause is given as electrical”
I’m no inspector, but I am an engineer, and more importantly grew up on a ranch where I did everything, including electric work, which my grandfather insured I did correctly.
It just had those weird flickers you get where there is a short, transient overloads, or bad connections.
We were the only guests and got to explore a bit, including the attic (there were regular stairs to it). The ball and tube mixed with modern wiring just looked hinkey. Lots of cloth covered wire that looked 80 years old 20 years ago. No clue if it was a code violation.
The woodwork was amazing, though. Built with tongue and groove connections, like furniture. Huge beams. It could laugh off a hurricane.
Speaking of distrust, the black racists on Youtube are celebrating this as a get Whitey thingy.
Ok.
Wow. I hate that. Years ago, we held a large customer dinner there! A piano was in the room. At the urging of my table mates, I started playing it. I played three songs for everyone .. it was a magical night.
