Germany’s New Chancellor Kicks Off Leadership With Ukraine-Affirming Trip to France and Poland

Friedrich Merz is spending his first day as leader of Germany visiting France and Poland, promising a “fresh start” to EU relationships and signalling defiance to President Trump in saying they will never accept an “imposed” peace on the Ukraine War.

The French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed newly appointed Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Paris on Wednesday, the leaders of the two largest and richest countries in Europe publishing a joint statement vowing greater cooperation on defence, economics, and the Ukraine War. Merz will later today travel to Poland for more meetings, which in both cases he said were to launch a “fresh start” in relations with his eastern and western neighbours.

France and Poland are also major partners for Germany on the continued effort to underwrite Ukraine’s armed forces, and Merz announced today a first trip as Chancellor to Ukraine “in the coming weeks”.

It is fair to say that Fred Mertz received a lot of laughs, but mostly annoyed expressions and sighs from his wife, Ethel, and the ghosts of his dead friends, Adolf and Eva Hitler.

Ukraine is not being forced into any peace agreement. Trump certainly wasn't. Trump was negotiating for the best possible agreement that would stop the hostilities since Ukraine holds no cards, and Russia does, then it of course favors Russia.

I been saying that Trump needs to just walk away & let Europe handle the issue.

I still contend that Europe is trying to pretend that Europe doesn't need Trump or the U.S. as a ruse to get Trump involved. Trump needs to just walkaway & let Europe finally take over their security needs. NATO was created to stand against the Soviet Union. The Soviet served its purpose & the Soviet Union is no longer a threat. Thus, Russia is in itself not the threat that the Soviet Union presented to Europe.

So, I wish them well. If they continue this conflict, that they are able to get a better deal. However, in my heart I sadly believe that it will not work out well for Europe. I pray that I am wrong with my belief, because I want what is best for the people of Ukraine. The people should have never been needlessly subjected to what has taken place there, because no one really wanted there to be a peaceful resolution. Instead, they wanted the proxy war.
