Crime, defunding police, fear of uncertainty and unrest after natural disasters or another pandemic are fueling gun ownership and interest in gun schools.
"There's a lot of things, a lot of chaos that happens, especially like big cities, and, you know, people don't want to be the victim anymore," says Eric Stieber, attending a week-long handgun class at Gunsite Academy, a massive gun training school near Prescott, Arizona.
More than 40% of US households have a gun and Americans buy more guns every year than new cars. But owning a gun isn’t the same as knowing how to use it.
"If you buy a piano, you’re not Billy Joel. If you buy a gun, you’re not Wyatt Earp. If you buy a gun, you need to practice," says Kevin Regan, a Maryland real estate executive.
"The number one takeaway I got from this experience is - don't go out and buy a gun and just go down to the shooting range and think that you're trained, because you are not," says Texas trauma surgeon Bill Morgan.
Morgan had just finished 10 minutes inside an indoor simulator known as the Playhouse, a concrete block house where students face cardboard targets in virtually every room. Some carry a gun, others carry a purse or a beer in their hand. Students are expected to clear the house – shoot the bad guys and spare the innocent. Miami investor Ari Paul said it’s more stressful than it appears.
"I live in Florida, where I think something like a third of all households have a firearm. So it’s not a terrible skill to have," he says. "No one should buy a firearm unless they were prepared to train intensely and treat it seriously."

Thank you very much and God bless you.
I think Robert A. Heinlein wrote: “An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life”.
Don’t forget to factor in repeat sales. Most gun owners have 5 or 20. The correct number to own is always one more. Much like motorcycles.
“you know, people don’t want to be the victim anymore.”
The woke government doesn’t like to hear that.
But there’s a new sheriff in town, with different hair.
It took me about 5 1/2 hours over 2 weeks to buy a shotgun.
Should have gone to Medford or Boomtown.
Bought a single shot .22 Marlin at 7 yrs old. If I recall
rounds were something in the area of $2.50 / brick.

The writer Anton Chekov wrote:
“If in the first act you have hung a pistol on the wall, then in the following one it should be fired. Otherwise don’t put it there.”
and
“One must never place a loaded rifle on the stage if it isn’t going to go off. It’s wrong to make promises you don’t mean to keep.”
It was said the introduction of new gadgets by Q to James Bond meant that each one would sometime become an integral part of something in the movie later. An escape, a use of a weapon and so on.
More guns, less crime
Oh, just point and shoot! (/S)
I remember going into an army surplus store. laying down cash and walking out with an army surplus trainer .22. No paper work, no waiting period, no background checks.
Still have it. The year was 1964. I was 17 years old.
Same for other rifles and pistols I wish I still had before Dec 1968.

That lessens downrange concerns and makes practice more enjoyable.
Project Appleseed™ is a non-partisan and apolitical group of men and women (known as the Revolutionary War Veterans Association) committed to upholding the values and principles of America’s founding fathers. We use rifle marksmanship instruction as a gateway to help bring our nation’s history to life. You will find that many of the values that our forefathers relied on to win our independence are still very much in demand today.
Through clinics and events, we teach rifle marksmanship and the history of April 19, 1775, the first day of the American Revolution. No matter your skill level, you will learn the marksmanship skills that were so crucial to the success of our nation’s founders. Aside from the fun and camaraderie, these events are designed for you to take away a renewed sense of civic responsibility that you can use in your own community.
We aim to inspire Americans to become active citizens who uphold the principles and values upon which our country was built. We want to create a community of informed and engaged citizens who will contribute to the betterment of our nation.
“one more” doesn’t work when you have a boat. one day maybe don’t take guns on the boat. but that remains to be seen.
Thanks, T.B.!
Treat it seriously - yes. Train "intensely"? - that falsely projects the myth that shooting a firearm is an intense skill that must be mastered.
It was routine for our ancestors and still is for us. Let's not pretend it's some in-depth and specialized training. It takes far more skill to ride a bicycle.
Here's a link to a 10-second YouTube video short of a kid dual wielding two Nerf handguns, raising and firing them both, hitting and sticking the suction cups on each eyeglass lens of his sister who was holding a target on a computer tablet. Certainly some safety training needed for both of them, but training intensely? The kid's dual wielding and hitting such a target with a relatively quick draw.

I go to Compass Training Center in Chino Valley. I know most of the RSOs there. They are very helpful in perfecting my skills.
