The US and Ukraine have signed a deal that will give Washington access to some of the war-torn country's natural resources.
Months in the making, it sets up an investment fund that Ukraine hopes will cement US assistance as the country struggles to repel Russia three years after the invasion.
The Ukrainians have now published the deal and there have been public statements from both sides. Here are seven key takeaways.

There were some concerns in Kyiv that the resources deal could hinder Ukraine's ability to join the EU, if it gave preferential treatment to US investors, as Kyiv and Brussels already have a strategic partnership on raw materials.
But the deal's text says that the US acknowledges Ukraine's intention to join the EU and the need for this agreement not to conflict with that.
It also says that if Ukraine needs to revisit the terms of the deal because of "additional obligations" as part of joining the EU, then the US agrees to negotiate in good faith.

….and the EU is broke, Ukraine is a financial debacle, the EU will not allow a bankrupt basket case to join….talk is cheap.
Just another money-laundering scheme. The U.S. will never make a nickel profit from this.
Maybe but look at the bright side — the US has crawled right back into bed with the most corrupt nation in Central Europe.
In testament to just how bad the deal is for the US, the Ukrainian Parliament has already “ratified” it.
It was just signed yesterday lol
WTF in the US thought this was a good deal?
It could work out very well for both sides but don't underestimate the Ukraine's ability to never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. I expect that there is a very good chance that even this very watered down agreement does not get approved by the Ukraine in it's current form.
It’s a bad deal. I can’t imagine why Trump brokered this.
1. Giving 50 million dollars to the Ukes to further prolong the war?
2. Trusting the Z-man to actually give up the minerals, and when he doesn’t we send troops in to get them?
3. It assumes that Russia will sit back and watch the US takes those minerals.
4. Etc. etc.
Still waiting for a reasonable and factual explanation of this deal from someone, anyone. It certainly won’t come from the MSM.
The “minerals” are a joke. The US itself is sitting on all of these. We refused to mine them because of environmentalism, nimbyism, and . Central Quebec, for example, has the largest graphite deposits in the world.
so what is this really about?
The most corrupt nation in continental Europe is by far...RUSSIA !
Ukraine is much less corrupt.
Ranking by county (2024):
Sweden: 8 (excellent)
France: 25 (good)
USA: 28 (good)
Ukraine: 105 (not that good, but ranking improving every year)
Russia: 154 (catastrophic and ranking getting worse every year)

President Trump did.
It was his proposal.
Are you accusing President Trump of not making a good deal?
Don’t you trust President Trump and his plan?
I trust Trump. I don’t understand his plan.
Tell me. What part of this Arms for Minerals plan do YOU like?
But when the war is over, we will make a deal with Russia for the good stuff on the lands they now occupy.
And "Z" will jump up and down like Rumpelstiltskin.
The difference will be...Russia will go after the minerals...and "Z" will do nothing.
A lot of this agreement depends on whether the war between Russia and Ukraine can be ended without regime change in Ukraine. If Ukraine’s government remains intact after the war, then USA has access to gas, oil, and minerals in Ukraine. USA doesn’t offer security guarantees to Ukraine which is good. But USA isn’t guaranteed to make any money with Russia and Ukraine fighting. In my opinion, USA only is first in line among foreign countries to have access to Ukraine’s natural resources after the war is over. That’s about it.
Yes
I think retarded comes to mind. He looks like a fool and isn’t even aware of it.
Trump has previously demanded that Ukraine pay back the $350bn (£264bn) of aid that he claims has been provided by the US during the war - a condition that Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected.
But Washington appears to have made a concession. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said the agreement did not dictate that his country pay back any supposed “debt”.
Trump has styled the agreement as a win for his side as well, saying his country will get back “much more in theory” than the billions that were provided to Ukraine by his predecessor Joe Biden.
