100 Days: Inflation Falls To Zero Even as Income and Spending Grow
Breitbart ^ | 04/30/2025 | John Carney

Posted on 04/30/2025 9:09:04 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

Inflation fell to zero in March, a welcome reprieve after persistent inflation under President Biden and the best reading in nearly five years, even as consumer spending accelerated sharply and incomes rose solidly — a powerful signal of economic improvement at the start of the Trump administration.

The Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge, the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index, was flat in March, according to data released Wednesday by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Core PCE — which strips out food and energy — was also unchanged, marking the tamest monthly inflation reading since early 2020.

Compared with a year ago, the PCE index is up 2.3 percent and the core index is up three percent, both below the month-earlier figures. The Federal Reserve says it targets two percent inflation when making monetary policy.

President Donald Trump anticipated the fall in inflation at a rally Tuesday night in Michigan.

“Inflation is basically down and interest rates came down despite the fact that I have a Fed person who’s not really doing a good job, but I won’t say that,” Trump said.

Inflation fell to zero in March...

I have seen no evidence of that in local grocery store prices or gasoline prices.

Gasoline is up about 10c per gallon here to $3.09.

My usual grocery cart is about 10% higher than it was in March. There is normal noise variation of +-10%, so I am not too concerned there, as long as it does not happen next month.

I would give it another month before claiming that inflation has gone to zero. That would be great news if true.

Gas prices still up in Georgia. $2.99

Really? All of Georgia has one gasoline price?

Gas Buddy is showing MANY stations in the Atlanta area alone are in the $2.60 range. I see plenty of $2.50s in Columbus GA. And just acrosss the border in Greenville SC, there's no shortage of stations in the $2.40s.

In fact, I don't see a single station in all of GA that's above $2.87

Are you sure about that $2.99? Or maybe you're just a liar.

“They “Target” only taking 2% of your wealth every year with inflation. Thanks government.”

That’s like saying “I only want to buy gas when I’ve run out.”

You don’t want to cut inflation low enough to risk going into deflation. You would like that much less. The inflation/deflation balance requires overage for safety. The right question is “How hard is it to beat inflation?” With MMFs around 4%, CDs at 4%+ and 3month T-Bills at 4.30% you beat inflation right now with no risk whatsoever. You can beat by much more with small risk, like a stock that pays a dividend above the inflation rate. (Dividends are tax-advantaged too, some more than others.) And there is no state or local taxing of T-Bills, boosting their return compared to other investments.

Food prices are not included in the inflation calculation so you are looking in the wrong place. You can’t use products that wildly fluctuate for monthly inflation readings, they will make no sense.

It’s like trying check your gas mileage but every couple of days you race your car at drag races, sometimes more than other times.

Gas is down almost $1 a gallon here in the People’s Republic of NYS. I’m breaking out my “I did that” Trump stickers with notation what the price was under Pedo Joe.

Yep and all the SCARY news about businesses shuttering their doors (which was a result of the last 4 years which they fail to mention, trying to pin it on the Prez)

Article incorrect.

PCE month to month is pretty noisy and not really all that useful compared to PCE year to year.

PCE year to year (for the month of March) was above expectations — +2.6% and core +2.5%.

Nothing wrong with a 0% month to month, but it probably derives from the same effect that spiked Imports — expectation of tariffs upcoming. Huge purchases made at current price before the price rises. That can get you a month-to-month of 0%, when 0.2% expected (X12 = 2.4% y/y).

This article is propaganda.

In other news, left-wingers’ heads have begun exploding. Doctor Fauci said it was a new pandemic, right before his head exploded. MSNBC’s entire evening news was affected, as was the cast of The View, and BAM!

I basically agree with this take. One month tells us very little and can mislead. That’s why it’s jumped on by people trying to make a case without proper use of stats.

I would second that for the most part. I guess I’d admit that I HAVE seen some prices come down, but not as many as should be. Certain stores advertise “always the lowest prices” but I’ve yet to see that happen.

Food prices are not included in the inflation calculation, so you are looking in the wrong place.

And what else really counts? Maybe add utility costs, rent or mortgage payments, taxes and insurance. Food prices have a lot of seasonal variation, so you need to use a large basket of different types to get a reasonable picture.

Government statistics on inflation have long been gimmicked to understate the problem by looking at a basket of indicators that have little to do with actual living costs.

Those gimmicks are still in place. The government statistics won't show a true picture for a while yet.

I remember when EVERYTHING was super expensive under Biden, the commie media said “Eh its all in our heads” I remember when Inflation was through the roof and they called it “Transitory” but NOW, NOW its a big deal of course..maybe just maybe people need to stop relying on EVERY DAMN THING from China..seriously China is the ONLY country that can create a BIO WEAPON, spread it worldwide on PURPOSE and still make off like bandits with everyone licking their behinds

If you drive at full speed, you sometimes miss the mark when you slam on the brakes. I know Trump has had a whole 100 days, but, give him a chance, he has 200 lawsuits in that 100 days.

6 pac of eggs - $5.99, formerly $.99 Nasal Spray - $3.96, formerly $1.96 Gasoline - now up to $3.99

And no, I'm not a troll, I've been here for years. I'm just 100% in on Trump. He's too easily swayed by his circle of influencers. For instance, he said DST needs to be eliminated, now he's advocating for DST.
