Albertsons supermarket chain warns suppliers company is ‘not accepting cost increases’ over Trump’s tariffs

The buck stops with them.

North America’s second-largest supermarket chain is warning its suppliers that it won’t allow price hikes due to President Trump’s tariff spree.

Albertsons, which operates over 2,200 grocery stores — including Balducci’s, Kings and Acme in the New York area, blasted out a missive to its suppliers late last month, explaining that suppliers must get authorization for significant price hikes.

“With few exceptions, we are not accepting cost increases due to tariffs,” stated the letter, first uncovered by American Economic Liberties Project researcher Matt Stoller.

Perhaps the Albertsons corp doesn’t want to leave an opportunity open for price gouging. I, for one, do not believe that the last round of inflationary prices were all legitimate. I think that some suppliers saw an opportunity to increase their profit margin.

Stop buying stuff from outside the country to pawn off on customers here.

I’m not so sure I buy this. It probably means they know price increases were not forthcoming.

Shows how much profit they were making even before the tariffs hit.

The Wall Street Bungee Jumpers and their “media” toads have singlehandedly destroyed this valiant effort to get Americans out of the role of the world’s dumbest, dumbass suckers.

Non-profit and non-partisan, the American Economic Liberties Project is part of a growing, cross- ideological movement to combat monopolistic corporations and the systems that entrench their power.

Have the tariffs taken effect yet? If not, pricing shouldn’t be increasing. I’m just a little consumer but price gouging is criminal

Your biggest customer has a lot of leverage to get you to cut your prices to the bone but no one can operate at a loss forever.

Eventually Albertsons will have to accept price hikes or face empty shelves.

Large customers often have a say in accepting price increases. It’s just a common negotiation tactic.

They are angry after having their deal with the devil nixed. The fact that they were willing to merge with Kroger was a clear demonstration that they do not care about consumers. PLENTY of other grocery stores to shop at.

I’m not sure what it really means. I shop at Safeway a lot, which I believe is an Albertson subsidiary.

On the face of it, this article seems to say that Albertson’s isn’t going to just accept price hikes presented to them by suppliers on the basis of Trump’s tariffs (?)

LOL - before the tariffs

So why didn’t they oppose Biden’s inflation and
just say no to that too. Can you say politics?
