China Slams the Door on Trump: No Trade Talks Without Total Tariff Surrender
gurufocus via Yahoo ^ | April 25th, 2025 | Khac Phu Nguyen

China just raised the stakes in its standoff with Washington. Despite President Trump's recent attempts to dial down the rhetoric and hint at possible tariff relief, Beijing isn't budging. A spokesperson from China's Commerce Ministry flatly rejected any notion of progress, calling U.S. claims of renewed dialogue groundless. The message: if the U.S. wants to talk, it needs to first undo the damagestarting with a full rollback of unilateral tariffs, now as high as 145%. China also made it clear that future talks hinge on more than just kind words; Washington needs to get serious about core issues like sanctions and Taiwan.

While Trump has publicly said everything's active and even tried reconnecting with Xi Jinping, Beijing is keeping its distance. Chinese officials, including central bank governor Pan Gongsheng, warned at the G20 that prolonged friction could erode trust in the global economic system. No face-to-face meetings have been scheduled. And even as Trump softens his tone, China's Defense Ministry blamed the U.S. for souring military ties, adding to the pile of unresolved tensions. From Beijing's perspective, symbolic gestures won't cut itWashington must first show sincerity before anything moves forward.

The piece cites a Bloomberg article via an embedded link.

China sees our bet, and raises aggressively.

We cannot capitulate, we're in it now. Capitulation would mean the eventual destruction of Western Civilization.

We’ve left the skanky refugee, District “judgeys” win and now we’re going to capitulate to Red China because a Vietnamese says we should?

Trump needs to concentrate on his diplomacy and pull the Russian and Iranian rugs out from under the Chicoms.

Hopefully we never drop tariffs on China and eventually end all trade with them.

We have to get supply chains for things like rare earth and redeveloped our industry, with that said China needs us far more than we need them

Their population is not only shrinking, but depends on exports because there is little consumer economy. Too few people, but more importantly too little money

Exports account for 40% of gdp, the froth of that as a percentage has a lot to do with housing proce crash and high unemployment

If this is true, why did china just drop tariffs on semiconductors? Me thinks the chinese have two faces. One for public consumption and one for meetings behind closed doors.

Xi can’t admit that they’re talking with Trump. If he does, he would lose face with the public and the Army. CCP propaganda has told their public that China had long surpassed the US economy. To talk to Trump is to appear weak. If Xi looks weak on the international stage and the Chinese public sees that, his days are numbered. The Chinese leaders have to look strong to stay in power.
Bloomberg are useful idiots for the CCP.

a full rollback of unilateral tariffs,

They're only 'unilateral' if you restrict your view to only tariffs and not all the other protectionist, exploitative, unfair things the Chinese have been doing to us for decades now, including outright IP theft and espionage.

If a mugger with a knife in each hand gets a gun pulled himself, I don't think he can rightfully complain about the 'unilateral' use of a firearm.

China has spread a lot of (our) money around. Now they are calling in the chips.

China may think this is about trade I think it is more about Covid and China’s role in the “pandemic”.

Pressure only works if President Trump was going to run for another term, he isn’t. The truth is, without the United States buying their cheap junk China’s economy collapses.

The Chinese government is NOT capitalist, they are more like a crime syndicate. The bosses at each level from top down each take a bit of the profit so those at the very bottom have almost nothing to fall back on.

The US economy is large and diverse, China’s economy is almost entirely based on exports. If they can’t export ...

Well we will have to wait and see what happens

Today, Chinese delegates entered the Treasury in DC. They asked the photographer to remove their photos. It looks like the Chinese finance minister led the delegation.

Exclusive from Korea’s JoongAng Ilbo: A senior official from China’s Ministry of Finance entered the U.S. Treasury building—located right next to the White House in Washington, D.C.—accompanied by a group of over ten entourage members.
