April 21, 2025 – A leaked budget draft revealed the federal government has proposed to eliminate all funding for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline’s LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services – a federal program that provides emergency crisis support to LGBTQ+ youth considering suicide – effective October 1, 2025. Since being implemented in 2022, this program, funded through The United States Department of Health and Human Services, has provided more than 1.2 million crisis contacts with life-saving, LGBTQ+-inclusive crisis services.
“Suicide prevention is about risk, not identity. Ending the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline’s LGBTQ+ youth specialized services will not just strip away access from millions of LGBTQ+ kids and teens – it will put their lives at risk,” said Jaymes Black, CEO of The Trevor Project. “These programs were implemented to address a proven, unprecedented, and ongoing mental health crisis among our nation’s young people with strong bipartisan support in Congress and signed into law by President Trump himself.”
“I want to be clear to all LGBTQ+ young people: This news, while upsetting, is not final. And regardless of federal funding shifts, The Trevor Project remains available 24/7 for anyone who needs us, just as we always have.”
“To end suicide in this country, we need more resources – not fewer. We urge the Administration to maintain its long-standing commitment to ending suicide among high-risk populations, especially our nation’s young people. We urge Congress to defend its establishment of this data-based, bipartisan program to allow its life-saving services to continue for generations to come. We do not have to agree on every policy issue to agree that every young life is worth saving.”

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Posted so you can point and laugh. But don't laugh too hard, you're still paying until October.
Emphasis added. Even without you paying them, they are getting money from somewhere.
At best that should be a local or state issue, not federal. Let the states do their diligence.
Amendment 10
if you have already transitioned
and are suicidal
dont bother calling
you do not exist
Why is the federal government funding a suicide hotline to begin with?
I think that just defunding/deconstructing other leftist money laundering organizations will do the trick. Look at what has been accomplished by merely taking down USAID.
Why is it that the more fawning societal support and affirmation these identity groups get, their tax payer-funded emotional support becomes even more critical? It’s counter-intuitive.
It was a money laundering scam.
I would support funding a hotline to help those tormented by BLTetc thoughts to get counseling that is definitely needed.
Not sure it has to be government funded; maybe because big government has helped create the problem.
When I was in college, Christian conservatives got hold of our suicide hotline and literally ‘saved’ a lot of people, including a couple that I knew.
Part of the problem is that psychologists have given up on the idea that these things are mental disorders so the kids have nobody competent to turn to when they experience issues most often stemming from early trauma or from having a mentally-ill mother. A suicide prevention call can’t fix the underlying problems, and without the underlying problems being addressed, it’s just gonna be one mental breakdown after another.
They did the same thing with homosexuality. They said the suicides, drug abuse, promiscuity, and other risky behaviors were because of the stigma. So they took away the stigma and the results are the same as before. The behaviors - and very possibly the homosexuality itself - come from issues that have not been resolved, and just saying that homosexuality is not a mental illness does not take away the early trauma that a lot of them are dealing with.
One of the things that people who identify as sexual deviants have is that they sexualize everything and believe that their struggles make them different from every other human being. What they don’t realize is that the things they are dealing with are common to man and though people deal with them in different ways, they all dealing with those issues. “There’s something not right with me” can present itself as being trans, promiscuity, anorexia, drug abuse, cutting, or many different things. But the issue is still that there is something not right within the person. Often it comes from something they’ve been told, possibly even before they were old enough to know they were being told it, and they believed the lie. No matter how much you say that pretending to be a girl will then make things right inside you, that doesn’t take away the lie that you are believing. It just gets you adding another lie to the original one.
If we really want to help these kids we probably first need to get the whole field of psychology to start being scientists again.
I understand the skepticism - and I’m right there with you on this particular program being a likely grift.
However, I also know the VA does have a suicide hotline for veterans and I’m 100% OK with my tax dollars being used for a such a thing.
I also donate to Wounded Warriors - they don’t *directly* get any federal funding (this is *their* choice), but on the general idea of “Why is the federal government funding...”?
I think it’s a baby and bathwater thing: We all owe our veterans a lot and I have zero problem with federal tax dollars going towards such things in *some* circumstances - like taking care of our vets.
To greatly reduce suicide among the LGBTQ community (especially the trans community), they need REAL mental help that explores why they are suicidal and deal with the basic problem and don’t just encourage them to mutilate themselves.
Why a Federal Program...That’s just nuts. These are local matters and the LBGT....should not be separate at that level.
It should not be an essential federal function. Any state can help their localities have such a function if they want, and of course charities run many such type of functions without any federal funding.
Why do the queers need their own special suicide hotline?
Isn’t it enough to just have a “Suicide Lifeline” for everyone? Don’t need to attach the filthy depraved LGBT acronym to it. /spit
Thanks for the highlight. It is laughable and infuriating — “we will always be here even without federal funding.” Somehow these groups can manage without our tax money.
Has anybody ever asked about RESULTS? Do these programs actually work?
They wrote “To end suicide in this country, we need more resources – not fewer.”
I would rewrite that to the universal “To end [anything] in this country, we need more resources – not fewer.”
Or, as Fred Neil wrote:
“You waltz in here
With a handful of gimme
A mouthful of much obliged”
Everybody in the country has a “handful of gimme”
It sure is funny that there has never, ever been a “Conservatives Suicide Hotline” or similar, ain’t it?
I could be mistaken, but the feds fund veteran’s suicide hotlines at the VA.
Now, do not misunderstand, I am not trying to place queers in the same category as vets. All I am doing is answering your question.
States that support this LGBTQ stuff are the ones that should be funding any related hotlines.
Propaganda alert!!!
At best it is a private health provider and patient issue.
