Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem fell victim to a thief while eating dinner at a downtown Washington, DC, restaurant Sunday night, two sources familiar with the incident, including a law enforcement source, told CNN. ….. The thief got away with Noem’s driver’s license, medication, apartment keys, passport, DHS access badge, makeup bag, blank checks, and about $3,000 in cash, the law enforcement source said.

In some jurisdictions, the popo could take her $3000 as illicitly gained drug cash with no recourse.
The irony here is not lost on me. Mebbe we need a Department of Restaurant Security.
Nothing personal, but why would you carry $3 grand in cash especially in Washington DC where the thugs would rob you for a $500 cell phone or pair of trendy shoe?
Situational awareness.
How can anyone leave a purse unattended on Washington DC?
Premise Cameras?
She now feels the same way I feel every April 15th.
One would hope for more situational awareness from someone in that role.
What? No service weapon?
Yup - not a good look for the Director of Homeland Security.
I'm a Noem fan, but this is just plain stupid. I don't like idiots working for me.
That sounds more like her “go” bag. Three grand in cash and her passport?
“Nothing personal, but why would you carry $3 grand in cash especially in Washington DC where the thugs would rob you for a $500 cell phone or pair of trendy shoe?”
That’s bad enough - but knowing that the Left has a target painted on you and STILL bringing those items in with you is simply not very smart. My wife was pickpocketed in Ukraine (not really, but close enough) - all they got was a crappy purse with $60 in it. The rest was tucked-in under my clothes.
That is apparently why she killed her animals so callously too — everyone does that in North Dakota.
I carry at least $3,000 cash every where I go. What is wrong with using cash?
$3k in cash? I am all for carrying “walking around money”. But $3k seems like a lot.
“How much have you had to drink tonight, madam secretary?”
Asking Grok:
Does the DHS secretary have a 24/7 security detail?
Yes, the United States Secretary of Homeland Security has a 24/7 security detail provided by the United States Secret Service. This is standard practice due to the secretary’s critical role in national security and their position as a high-profile Cabinet member overseeing agencies like the Secret Service, Customs and Border Protection, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
