Janet Yellen: American Manufacturing Is a ‘Pipe Dream,’ May Not Be a ‘Desirable Goal’

Former President Joe Biden’s U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen blasted President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Monday, saying the return of American manufacturing is just a “pipe dream” that may not even be a “desirable goal.”

Yellen, who chaired the Federal Reserve from 2014 to 2018 prior to heading the Treasury from 2021 to 2025, took to CNBC’s Squawk Box to spew her anti-American rhetoric:

Things have been just chaotic,” the former secretary said. “The reciprocal tariffs put on and paused … This is really creating an environment in which households and businesses feel paralyzed by the uncertainty about what’s going to happen — it makes planning almost impossible.”

At one point in the interview, she revealed that she does not believe in “American manufacturing”:

This from a broad who said inflation was transitory. Go back to bed and hug your Jim Beam bottle.

1. There are people who can make a good living in manufacturing jobs in the US.

2. A nation puts itself at risk if depends on outsourced manufactured goods. Wars have been lost due to exposure to this risk.

She may be partially right. Manufacturing may come back to the USA but the jobs will be largely automated in order to boost productivity and defer much higher labor costs. While we do want to strongly encourage strategic manufacturing, it is uncertain how much of a benefit it is to have manufacturers of cheap junk set up shop back here.

Of course she wants it to be a “pipe dream”, not a “desirable goal”.

She wants this administration to fail, and for the country to be mired in a serf-like attitude towards Communist China.

Reason?

Because she doesn’t want people to see her, the Obama, and the Biden Administrations for the utter, abject failures they are.

Of course she want our country to fail.

Why is it that the biggest loudmouths are usually the most incompetent?

If it’s not desirable to have manufacturing, then why are other nations competing against us for manufacturing jobs, and why have these nations been protecting their own industries and manufacturing using tariffs against us?

What we absolutely do not need, Janet, are more delusional and unqualified academics making decisions that impact Americans and America.

“Not a desirable goal?

No wonder American jobs ended up overseas. The elites wanted it that way.

And deep-state democrats and republicans went along.

Yep. Can't bring Communism to the US? Fine. Just move the wealth to where the Communism is already established.

it is not necessary that a nation manufacture every thing it consumes

it is however necessary that a nation manufacture all key defense-related items ... and run an approximately-even trade balance with the rest of the world

or else it leaves itself at risk of military or economic disaster

China did us a favor stepping up and banning exports of rare earth metals and magnets used for our defence equipment and other. It shows all but the stupidest here that we must start mining it here instead and now. Should make our drugs here or in Puerto Rico also.

Manufacturing isn’t a pipe dream since we already have it. We are setting new records for manufacturing output. We hold the number two spot behind a country 4x our size who likes to make cheap crap. We are the world’s 2nd largest steel manufacturer.

The singular focus on measuring manufacturing output based on jobs is idiotic. If we want jobs then by all means let’s start hand painting clay pots fired from clay dug by hand.

Correct, I would only quibble with “all key defense-related items”, I would say most, with the others produced in closely allied countries.

But certainly not China who has never been our ally, they’ve been biding their time to destroy us the whole time.

This dumb bleech, she’s never made a damn thing in her life.

I’ve urged Elon Mush to start something like “X Mecha”, a company that makes state of the art machinery and tools. Look at what Musk has done with casting and all sorts of other ways to make stuff. He can start with injection molding.
