The European Commission is issuing burner phones to officials traveling to the United States amid fears of espionage in Trump’s America.
It’s the kind of security measure typically saved for trips to China or the Ukraine, where the fear of IT surveillance is high. But three European Commissioners will test out burner phones and basic laptops at International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings in Washington next week, sources told the Financial Times.
The move from the European Commission, the primary executive arm of the European Union, marks a new era of American-European relations, which have all but dissipated since Donald Trump took office in January. Last month, he slapped Europe with 20 percent tariffs, which he later reduced to 10 percent for 90 days. He has falsely claimed the EU was formed solely to “create a unified force against” the United States, he abandoned Ukraine in the face of Russia, and he threatened to withdraw American security guarantees to the continent altogether—single-handedly dismantling an alliance that has shaped the global order since Word War II, and simultaneously embracing Vladimir Putin’s alliance.
“The transatlantic alliance is over,” an EU official told the Financial Times.

Living rent free in their heads.
Does it really matter, whatever the EU says before they give the whole thing to the USSR2.0?
And it is glorious to see smug arrogant Euroweenies melting down.
It was ever thus.
Remember how Obama was spying on Merkel’s calls - in Germany?
Remember how the FBI was listening in on Russian Ambassador’s calls after Trump’s election in 2016, waiting for Gen. Mike Flynn to call him about US-Russia relations, so they could lay a perjury trap on Flynn?
Its nothing new.
I doubt it.
They are acting like criminals act.
Now is the time to have some fun
EU spies needing to up their game.
First we’d have to care what they’re saying.
Yeah, a so-called burner phone will completely stymie the NSA. Our “betters” at it again… Lol. It’s hard to imagine anybody actually believing a burner phone will protect them from government level interception.
Childish. Even if it were true, announcing it would merely let us know that they are combining against us somehow. That in itself is an intelligence data point.
More like children and drama queens....
Euro Weenies should ask Hezbollah how this worked for them.
Acting like spies actually.
More likely with Mossad selling the burner-phones, and collecting the data to ‘sell’ to the Russians or CIA.
“It’s what people know about themselves, inside, that makes them afraid”
Sounds like the EU authoritarians are planning on plotting against the US. They must be doing bad things to be this paranoid.
“The transatlantic alliance is over.” They say that to sound tough but over 70% of NATO military spending is American, and the entirety of Europe’s defense is intertwined with US forces. They are insane and suicidal to try to force us out, but many rabble rousers in Europe are trying to do just that. If they’ve decided our alliance is over, then we should be saving a gigantic fortune in money that we spend protecting the ingrates, but alas we are still there.
I have followed some Euro media, and they are fanatical in ginning up crazy anti-American propaganda. They also think we are attacking them by asking them to treat us fairly in trade for a huge change. They are incredibly arrogant and dishonest, and they have a deep-seated, long-term anti-Americanism that they are in a frenzy to amplify. Many are also “threatening” to turn away from the US towards oppressive and genocidal Communist China (as if an importer nation can be replaced with an exporter nation anyway). I don’t have much faith in the future of Europe at the moment.
Plus, now it will be harder to track the porn they watch while they’re supposed to be working back to themselves.
Paranoidal European socialists.
I’m pretty sure using a burner phone won’t keep you private if the feds are monitoring you.
