Trump’s Tariffs Are Working — Here Are All The Countries Already Backing Down

President Trump’s tariffs are already having an impact.

Earlier this week, Trump announced a sweeping new trade policy that included a universal 10 percent tariff on all imports into the United States.

In addition to this baseline measure, the administration introduced a system of reciprocal tariffs targeting countries with significant trade surpluses over the U.S.

The tariffs vary in severity, with higher rates imposed on nations deemed to have particularly unbalanced trade relationships or who refuse to buy American goods.

However, many countries are already offering the U.S. concessions:

Vietnam — Following the announcement of a nearly 50 percent tariff on their imports, Vietnam has immediately entered negotiations with the White House.

President Trump reported a “very productive call” with Vietnam’s Communist Party General Secretary To Lam, during which Lam expressed a willingness to reduce tariffs to zero contingent on the signing of a free trade agreement.

India — India has initiated discussions with the U.S. to address the trade barriers.

Officials are reportedly exploring the possibility of reducing or eliminating tariffs on certain U.S. imports and increasing purchases of American goods.

Other countries have no other choice but to come to the negotiating table on tariffs. Our economy drawves that of other countries. They can't take the hit.

I can't believe (although I shouldn't be surprised) at some of the reporting by corporate media. One lady told a reporter her grocery bill doubled from last week due to tariffs. The reporter took her at her word with no questions asked.

Another article talked of a furniture store that was having to close.....in August....the store sold $8000 Italian sofas. I wouldn't think there would be much call for those in Meridian, Kansas.

Countries use Tariffs to protect domestic economy. Most nations want to be self-sufficient for most of their needs and use imports to fill the gaps. Economic independence is prerequisite to sustain political independence and sovereignty in a current geo-political world order. Tariff is essential tool to pursue economic self-sufficiency and economic independence. Thus, tariff has been essential pillar of current economic/political world order. Trump is challenging current world order. He is trying to find out who are the friends and foes of new world order he wants to usher in. World at large is not going to agree to Trump until world knows what kind of new world order and economics they are buying into. It will be tough sell. Trump will not succeed. He will declare few winners to save his face and then abandon Tariff initiative. IMHO

I think the best thing about tariffs is that you can use them to fund the government, without needing the income tax, so you can abolish it. That’s how it was when America was great.

“Trump will not succeed. “

Of course he won’t. He’s a life long stumble bum loser who just doesn’t have the common sense God gave a rock. Neither he nor the huge pool of accomplished advisers can see what is so clear to many of us writing for news papers, teaching at universities, opining on TV and FReeRepublic and gassing away online. It’s not like he has any experience at being President…….

“Trump will not succeed.”

I have been hearing many people on this forum saying this over and over and over again...for ten years!

They never apologize either—or we would be overrun with posts saying...

“Sorry. I underestimated President Trump. Again.”

Most people don't have a clue about Trump's tariffs or how they are being used. This is as good an explanation as I have seen:

I don’t think you fully understand tariffs. They are much more than a “protective” policy tool. See my earlier post above (#10).

Here.

This goes good with sarcasm.:)

A decade or so ago I had someone tell me that Donald Trump just carried Ivana Trump's bags. That SHE was the one who actually ran things. I asked for a list of the big deals Ivana had pulled off since the divorce.

Funny. I never got one.

Of course Trump won’t succeed. Take this tariff thing. If tariffs worked, other countries would be doing it.

The medicine may be painful, but if we don’t do this, we’ll have long-term problems. I was just watching Sunday morning futures and they were talking about the fact that China skirts the laws by shipping products to Vietnam and Vietnam ship them to the United States as if they were manufactured there. There’s so much dishonesty Trump is correct. We have to stay the course

We have to worry about America and not the rest of the world we’ve become the pansy of the world because everybody walks on us. They want our money and gift, but they don’t want to invest here. We need to stop that BS.

We defend Europe and they continue to buy from Russia what is wrong with that picture?
