U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday he did not warn car industry executives against raising prices as tariffs on foreign-made autos come into force, telling NBC News he "couldn't care less" if they do.
The White House has been preparing to impose new tariffs on a range of consumer goods on April 2, a move that has drawn criticism from international leaders and concerns about potential price increases for consumers.
In the NBC News interview, Trump said his permanent tariffs on foreign-made automobiles would be a boost to U.S.-domiciled factories and was confident the move would lead to increased sales of American-made cars. "I hope they raise their prices, because if they do, people are gonna buy American-made cars," Trump said.
Trump maintained that he would only consider negotiating on the tariffs "if people are willing to give us something of great value."
The tariffs are part of Trump's efforts to promote American manufacturing and reduce the country's trade deficit.
Trump's trade policies have been a key focus of his presidency, with ongoing tensions with major trading partners.

Buy American
Another story out today quoting NBC News. IMHO NBC News is at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to the truth.
I’ve never been a big Newsmax fan. They are more like Fox
AP has the copyright so Newsmax can’t change it.
That is the idea. All of this is for main street, not wall street.
“couldn’t care less”
I’m glad he didn’t say “COULD care less” which is more often used and wrong!!!
Bottom of the article says “2025 Thomson/Reuters.”
Not AP.
Don’t worry. Most Freepers will believe what very little they read.
Newsmax is trash, Clinton Foundation supporters to the tune of $1 Million dollars.
Newsmax has many never Trumper a-holes who are more than happy to use AP or Reuter headlines.
BUY 🇺🇸
“Buy American”
How? Everything we make that is American is made up of parts from all over the world.
I have a Ford explorer its engine was made in west Germany.
If I had purchased it new after being made here in America,
in fall of 2025 would I pay for a tariff on its $6,000 engine?
I like tariffs, but the USA is not the same manufacturing giant it used to be, it will take years to rebuild, from years of Democrat, unions, and RINO rules.
It will cost us a lot to re-build.
If I were a company I would not hesitate to invest in new manufacturing capabilities, but it would be mostly automated.
I’d employ as few Americans, or any people for that matter as possible.
I’ve watched Democrats and the people they elect destroy too many industries.
You all do know that Honda is the only manufacturer who’s components are mainly manufactured in the USA.
70 percent.
GM, FORD, are built with components from either Canada or Mexico, etc.
What year? My Ford Expedition 2012 has a shit engine, among millions of faulty ones that Ford refused to recall and left people like me with massive bills. My Ford Explorer 2010 the same with its notorious "Exploder" transmission. Ford "engineers" are retards.
I want one of thos 10K Toyota trucks. I’ll pay the tariff
2015 Explorer.
They seem to have fixed most the crap by then.
Mine is used, relatively lo-miles. Previous owner
had a transmission replaced by Ford.
The V6 in mine has been around for YEARS!
Used all over Europe since the 70’s so solid design.
My Expedition(2005) has an old style Ford engine
in it and it is bullet proof.
As long as I’m not forced with buying UAW cars, I’m good with whatever tariffs Trump imposes.
You know you can’t buy a new one.
You can only buy one that is 10+ years old.
Or is it 20?
