The left-wing media went into overdrive on Monday following a report by Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic that he was mistakenly included in a chat on Signal with senior Trump administration officials. Goldberg claims that the top national security officials were coordinating a military strike through the group chat.
CNN’s Scott Jennings destroyed the narrative from Goldberg’s article and the subsequent claims from the left-wing media.
The magazine’s hit piece, published Monday, alleged that senior officials — including National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vice President JD Vance, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth — used the encrypted messaging app to plan an operation in Yemen. Goldberg, who was mistakenly added to the chat, claimed he initially thought it was a hoax until airstrikes confirmed its authenticity.
CNN’s John Berman framed the controversy as a potential legal violation, suggesting that the Trump administration endangered national security. But when asked about it, Jennings responded with a reality check.
“Well, sure. I mean, it’s a shocking thing, and you know, they’ve admitted that it was a mistake and admitted that it’s authentic, so they’re owning up to it,” Jennings said. “I think they’re still, based on what I’ve heard tonight, trying to figure out how it happened. I’m not sure that National Security Adviser Waltz even knows Goldberg. In fact, I don’t believe he knows him and has never met him.”
Jennings then laid out critical facts that The Atlantic conveniently omitted. “I did learn a few things in some of my conversations, if you're interested. One is that the Signal program was preloaded on a number of devices and agency computers in this circuit when they got there. So, in their view, it was already in use.”

As President Trump stated, this whole thing was no big deal. No damage done.
Case closed.
Correct....please, someone, explain how this reporter could have been MISTAKENLY added to the chain.
No f’n way...someone added him.
RE: No f’n way...someone added him.
That “someone” ought to be identified and fired.

“... the Signal program was preloaded on a number of devices and agency computers in this circuit when they got there. So, in their view, it was already in use.”
Trump should cease using this program immediately!
The devices were preloaded.
Now we turn our focus on treason. Calling defendant Jeffrey Goldberg to the stand.
Of course it was.
What's the evidence?
Of all the reporters in the swamp, why THIS reporter?
Who it was leaked to is just as telling as who leaked it, which was Waltz and his crew as CONFIRMED by Trump.
RE: Trump should cease using this program immediately!
OK, let’s say they learned their lesson and decided to use a very secure NSA certified communication system....
What’s to stop SOMEONE (a traitor) from letting a Jeffrey Goldberg in on the chat?
Jennings also pointed out that the officials in the chat were well aware of security protocols. “In some of the messages, they talk about needing to go to the high-side computers, which is the classified system. So they clearly were knowing there was a line on what you could discuss in a chat like this versus [on] the classified system.”
This, and the fact that Signal was approved by Biden for government use and was on their phones when they received them , makes me feel much better about the entire situation. Still ill-advised, but much less reckless and stupid.
That “someone” ought to be identified and fired.
***********
I would also include being charged , tried and sent to Gitmo for 20 years.
Goldberg has left alot to be desired on previous pieces, saying this contained war plans” was at the very least exaggerated, but the title for this thread ends there as I don’t see any evidence he added his own name to the chat, nor how he could have.
The things discussed amongst all of them (like Vance and Hegseth) which both the left and right have reported on have ramifications for America First going forward and what constitutes it concerning military interventionism, proxy wars, patrolling the Red Sea largely for the benefit of Germany, China, Japan, and Middle Eastern countries, when those same Middle Eastern countries have air bases and naval power, can use them against the Houthis, and don’t care much for Iran either.
Do you know for a fact that Waltz was "in" on it, or is this the "He's the Captain of the ship, and if there is an issue, he is responsible"?
The line quoted above seems quite accusatory.
No doubt Elon is already developing a super secure system for them. Probably finish up this afternoon and give them their devices tonight or tomorrow.
Signal is an open-source, encrypted messaging service for instant messaging, voice calls, and video calls.
The instant messaging function includes sending text, voice notes, images, videos, and other files. Communication may be one-to-one between users or may involve group messaging.
The application uses a centralized computing architecture and is cross-platform software. It is developed by the non-profit Signal Technology Foundation and its subsidiary Signal Messenger LLC.
Signal's software is free and open-source. Its mobile clients, desktop client, and server are all published under the AGPL-3.0-only license.
The official Android app generally uses the proprietary Google Play Services, although it is designed to be able to work without them.
Signal is also distributed for iOS and desktop programs for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Registration for desktop use requires an iOS or Android device.
Signal uses mobile telephone numbers to register and manage user accounts, though configurable usernames were added in March 2024 to allow users to hide their phone numbers from other users.
After removing support for SMS on Android in 2023, the app now secures all communications with end-to-end encryption.
The client software includes mechanisms by which users can independently verify the identity of their contacts and the integrity of the data channel.
LIMITATIONS
Signal requires that the user provide a telephone number for verification, eliminating the need for user names or passwords and facilitating contact discovery (see below).
The number does not have to be the same as on the device's SIM card; it can also be a VoIP number or a landline as long as the user can receive the verification code and have a separate device to set up the software.
A number can only be registered on one mobile device at a time. Account registration requires an iOS or Android device.
This mandatory connection to a telephone number (a feature Signal shares with WhatsApp, KakaoTalk, and others) has been criticized as a "major issue" for privacy-conscious users who are not comfortable with giving out their private number.
A workaround is to use a secondary phone number.
The ability to choose a public, changeable username instead of sharing one's phone number was a widely-requested feature. This feature was added to the beta version of Signal in February 2024.
Using phone numbers as identifiers may also create security risks that arise from the possibility of an attacker taking over a phone number.
A similar vulnerability was used to attack at least one user in August 2022, though the attack was performed via the provider of Signal's SMS services, not any user's provider.
The threat of this attack can be mitigated by enabling Signal's Registration Lock feature, a form of two-factor authentication that requires the user to enter a PIN to register the phone number on a new device.
The Atlantic is full of crap pumped out of ships and sewage lines.
It’s also the name of an ocean.
Note that the CIA gave Nunez his communications device. Did they somehow add Goldberg to the call list? Would not put it past them. They need to start shouting and throwing as much dust into the air as possible to distract from the contraction/collapse of the DemSoc party.
