Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told reporters Monday that “nobody was texting war plans” following news breaking that Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, gained access to a Signal group chat featuring Trump administration officials talking about plans for an attack against Houthi rebels in Yemen.
“Nobody was texting war plans, and that’s all I have to say about that,” Hegseth said outside a plane in Hawaii after being asked about Goldberg’s access to the chat.
Hegseth also called Goldberg “a deceitful and highly discredited, so-called journalist who’s made a profession of peddling hoaxes time and time again.”
Goldberg gained access to a group chat featuring Trump administration figures such as Hegseth and national security adviser Mike Waltz in which they talked about plans for an attack against Houthi rebels. The Atlantic journalist detailed his experience as a part of the chat in a Monday report that rattled Washington.
Goldberg said he had doubts originally that the Signal group was real because he did not think “the national-security leadership of the United States would communicate on Signal about imminent war plans.”
The chat’s existence was confirmed by a spokesperson for the National Security Council, Brian Hughes.
“This appears to be an authentic message chain, and we are reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain,” Hughes said previously. “The thread is a demonstration of the deep and thoughtful policy coordination between senior officials. The ongoing success of the Houthi operation demonstrates that there were no threats to troops or national security.”
Multiple Democrats went after Hegseth following the reveal of Goldberg’s breach into the chat.

Anddddd. There ya go.
🇺🇸
Pete straightened it out. There were no war plans.....
I called BS in a thread a bit earlier.
I stand by it.
This should be a short thread.😂
🇺🇸
If you see “The Atlantic” and “Jeffrey Goldberg”, you know that it’s Gaslighting.
This is hilarious. They convinced Goldberg that he was “invited” to a chat he wasn’t supposed to see and then watched as he invented a conversation about war plans. Now they can expose him as the liar he is. There should be serious consequences for this, but I imagine the only thing that will happen is his reputation, such as it is, will take a hit.
“ The chat’s existence was confirmed by a spokesperson for the National Security Council, Brian Hughes.”
I have seen no primary sourced statement by Brian Hughes, whoever he is supposed to be.
Yeah, no. This the Vice President and seemingly half of President Trump’s cabinet “chatting” in an unsecure/unapproved app. This is not going to be breezily dismissed. Guaranteed.
Pete got caught being lazy and stupid. Whatever you want to call it, there are now some more dead children in Yemen.
I agree with Pete. Goldberg is dishonest. Goldberg is scum.
I’ve been watching him for some time.
We can hope.
You can’t have war plans without a war and as far as I know Congress has not declared war.
‘ Yeah, no. This the Vice President and seemingly half of President Trump’s cabinet “chatting” in an unsecure/unapproved app. This is not going to be breezily dismissed. Guaranteed.’
I’m relieved to see someone else sees clearly on this topic.
War plans or not, it was a screw up and someone needs to be held accountable.
The main issue, lost in this article, is why Trump and team are now waging war against Yemen, and soon Iran, when these countries pose no risk at all to US national security. We are now at war with Yemen with no debate and no explanation as to why. From the President who promised to get us out of all the forever wars.
“ Yeah, no. This the Vice President and seemingly half of President Trump’s cabinet “chatting” in an unsecure/unapproved app. This is not going to be breezily dismissed. Guaranteed.”
That’s the narrative.
You of course have no idea or evidence but arevparticipating in this orchestrated disinformation campaign here.
Why?
Again...it has metastacized beyond leaking of war plans, etc, to what was actually discussed in the chats pertaining to Trump policy for the region, is it America First policy to patrol the Suez Canal when only 3% of trade through it is US, etc?:

I’m sjust tating the facts at hand. Hegseth isn’t. He’s just attacking the messenger. Probalby because he doesn’t have the facts on his side.
