Ukraine will never recognize occupied territories as Russian and will defend its sovereignty, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a conversation with journalists in Saudi Arabia on March 12.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy affirmed that Ukraine will not violate its Constitution, emphasizing the country’s commitment to defend its sovereignty, independence, and land. "It’s very difficult to fight such an enemy, but we are fighting for our independence and will not recognize any territories occupied by Russia," he said.
Zelenskyy also stressed that Ukraine will ensure Russia's crimes are never forgotten.
On March 10, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested that Ukraine might need to cede territory in any agreement with Russia.
Following a NATO defense ministers’ meeting, U.S. Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth argued that Ukraine’s failure to return to pre-2014 borders was not a concession to Vladimir Putin but a matter of realism.
Earlier, on Feb. 23, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would not accept unfavorable agreements and would refuse to sign any peace deal made behind its back by the U.S. or other partners.
On March 11, Ukrainian and U.S. representatives met in Jeddah. Ukraine’s delegation included Andriy Yermak, head of the Presidential Office, Andrii Sybiha, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Rustem Umerov, Minister of Defense. U.S. officials present were Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Michael Volz.
The U.S. offered Ukraine a 30-day ceasefire, which Zelenskyy confirmed Ukraine is ready to consider. Rubio added that the U.S. would relay the offer to Russia "through numerous channels."
Not another dime. No agreements. No security guarantees. No more Vietnams.
“Z” never hear of North Korea and South Korea...That cease fire has lasted over 75 years.
You lose.... Zit-man.
My prediction: PAIN
North and South Korea have never officially ended their conflicted. But they have a ceasefire. China claims that Taiwan is occupied PRC territory. But they haven’t taken it back yet and maybe never will. So Zelensky can talk all he wants. What matters at this point is a ceasefire. Ceasefires often have a way of turning into a de facto peace deal, or something close to one. That seems to be Trump’s hope. Get a ceasefire, and count on pressure, both internal and external, preventing a reengagement of hostilities. Grudges may remain, but over time things will cool off, Ukraine will hold elections again and Zelensky will eventually be replaced.
And neither recognizes the other to this day.
The areas he speaks of, they speak Russian.
Also, they voted to leave Ukraine, which got them air strikes and artillery in return back in 2014.
Be a shame if Ziggy “disappeared.”
Ukraine will hold elections again? What a concept.
And not if Z turns his/our guns on his own people.
They are though.
You poked bear.
Never poke bear.
Well, screw you then Ukraine. Trump should build (and appears to be) stronger ties with Russia...not with globalists. Russia is not slowly becoming part of a caliphate but the west certainly is. Add to that, all the insane corruption of the west apart from their loooove of immigration... No brainer...abandon Ukraine.
Indeed. I don’t know why Trump even invited him to the White House.
Time to move on. Just treat him as persona non-grata
But with the exception of Crimea are majority ethnic Ukrainian. How many times does this have to be pointed out?
Also, they voted to leave Ukraine, which got them air strikes and artillery in return back in 2014.
Referenda were only held in Luhansk and Donetsk, not Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, which were not yet under Russian occupation. Furthermore, the referenda, flawed as they were under military occupation, were only for autonomy within Ukraine, not for independence nor for union with Russia. And finally, this myth of Ukraine targeting ethnic Russian civilians is pure Russian propaganda.
“That seems to be Trump’s hope. Get a ceasefire, and count on pressure, both internal and external, preventing a reengagement of hostilities.”
That may well be Trump’s plan, but it was also the plan 11 years ago, Minsk-2, which the Europeans flat-out ADMITTED was never intended to be carried through, but was instead meant to buy time so that Ukraine could re-arm to take over Donbass and Crimea by force.
Russia (Putin) trusted the West back then and its costed them some 100,000 men...they’re not about to trust the West again - no way.
Think Ceausescu.
I agree with everything excpet i dont think z wants to end this war. For some nefarious reasons.
And he’s still quite popular.
Unless every poll is lying.
I hope no european countries send troops.
Oh well
Works for me.
Trump already knew Zelensky’s position, and already knew the Russians would not accept that ceasefire (they’d be crazy to accept it).
The only thing left for the time being is to continue the war. Trump may well be stuck with continuing to support Ukraine to avoid being blamed for their losses. Ukraine has been losing with all the support the US and EU could give them, and barring some wild event, that will continue.
Eventually, they will have to come to terms they don’t like.
It’s sad. If the Europeans weren’t so insane, perhaps it would be possible to convince the Ukrainians to cut their losses and go for peace. But Zelensky and the Europeans want the bloodshed to go on, and so it will, and the outcome for Ukraine may well be far worse than what they could have got now. It’s tragic, but it is what it is.
Footnote: When “Z” was running, those areas were not allowed to vote.

confusing tense
Hegseth: “But we must start by recognizing that returning to Ukraine’s pre-2014 borders is an unrealistic objective.”
