Inflation cools in first full month of Trump term
ABC News ^ | March 12, 2025 | Max Zahn

Consumer prices rose 2.8% in February compared to a year ago, easing slightly over the first full month under President Donald Trump and offering welcome news for markets roiled by a global trade war. Inflation cooled more than economists expected.

Price increases slowed from a 3% inflation rate recorded in January, though inflation remain nearly a percentage point higher than the Federal Reserve's target of 2%.

Egg prices, a closely watched symbol of price increases, soared 58.8% in February compared to a year ago, accelerating from the previous month. Bird flu has decimated the egg supply, lifting prices higher.

The Justice Department opened an investigation into egg producers to learn if market practices have contributed to the price hikes, a source familiar with the matter told ABC News.

Prices dropped for tomatoes, cereal, cupcakes and cookies over the past year. Some grocery prices increased faster than the pace of overall inflation, however, including beef, biscuits and apples.

A rise in housing costs accounted for nearly half of the price increases last month, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said. A decline in the price of airline tickets and gasoline helped offset some of the increased costs, the agency said.

I’m sure their on-air coverage will be very brief, sandwiched between the weather and some tabloid story.

Bird flu decimated? What a laugh. Bird flu didn’t kill nearly that many chickens. It was the government that killed the chickens. The same government that ordered the Covid lockdowns.

Bird Flue, and measles, are both nothing to worry about. The globalist choir is screaming, but it’s all BS.

Don’t be fooled!

Oh, they will say that the CPI is a trailing indictor (it is) and this is just the remnants of the Biden administration.

I have always been of the mind that the economic indicators should be tied to the President(s) on Day 1. It’s just the easiest way to measure. As the economy slows down in a natural cycle, Trump will be blamed for every hiccup. Why not have him take credit for the “wins.”

That said, while there are few excuses...there are plenty of reasons why things are the way they are. As unemployment goes up, federal spending goes down, and the whole import/export thing gets settled it will impact economic indicators wildly.

It will be fun to watch all of the former “instant virologists” turn into “instant economists” over the next six months..

'As unemployment goes up, federal spending goes down, '

Contrary positions. Grievances creates more government spending. Every large pop in unemployment has created more government spending. We are also spoiled with such low unemployment numbers, it hard to comprehend how low they are compared to the past.

Now the tech bro army wants more robots and ai to finish off the rest of the human edge for workers.

Exactly correct! Insane overreaction by government control freaks has caused many more problems than it has solved. If we look at how the overreaction to the 9/11 attacks affected our society we have to conclude that in many ways the terrorists won. The insane reaction to covid did untold economic and social damage to our country. Our society and especially our leadership has been operating for too long on the axiom “When in trouble, when in doubt, run in circles scream and shout.”

Except for the young girl who died from it in a Mennonite family. I’m sure they are sad about it.

Instead we expanded the Deep State and ended up spying on us.
