President Trump has drafted an executive order to officially “eliminate” the Dept. of Education, according to the Wall Street Journal. The president will direct Education Secretary Linda McMahon to take all necessary steps to facilitate its closure.
“The experiment of controlling American education through Federal programs and dollars—and the unaccountable bureaucrats those programs and dollars support—has failed our children, our teachers, and our families,” the draft order reads.
Abolishing the Dept. of Education has been a key promise the president made on the campaign trail.
“Oh, I’d like it to be closed immediately. Look at the Department of Education. It’s a big con job,” he said last month. “They ranked the top countries in the world. We’re ranked No. 40, but we’re ranked No. 1 in one department: cost per pupil. So, we spend more per pupil than any other country in the world, but we’re ranked No. 40.”
The Dept. of Government Efficiency recently announced they had uncovered hundreds of millions of dollars in wasteful spending at the DOE.
Of that $881 million, DOGE identified $101 million that was being used for DEI training, including teaching educators to “help students understand/interrogate the complex histories involved in oppression, and help students recognize areas of privilege and power on an individual and collective basis.”
McMahon strongly hinted that the days of the DOE would not be long.
“This is our opportunity to perform one final, unforgettable public service to future generations of students,” Ms. McMahon wrote in an email obtained by The New York Times. “I hope you will join me in ensuring that when our final mission is complete, we will all be able to say that we left American education freer, stronger and with more hope for the future.”
This is will be the most consequential executive order of the entire Trump presidency. The radical leftward lurch that our nation has undergone is a direct result of the Dept. of Education.
“We will drain the government education swamp and stop the abuse of your taxpayer dollars to indoctrinate America’s youth with all sorts of things that you don’t want to have our youth hearing,” Trump said at a September rally in Wisconsin.
Many of our nation’s taxpayer-funded classrooms have become indoctrination centers for anti-American ideology. Many teachers are radicalizing children. This is the engine driving the dangerous ideological change in this country.
As I wrote in “Twilight’s Last Gleaming: Can America Be Saved?” control of our schools must be returned to the local level. Otherwise, we will never be able to make America great again. And there are great fears that we might lose the Republic.
PING!......................
Waiting for some nut case liberal judge to stop it.
Like to happen tomorrow, but states need time to make the adjustment to create or improve their own departments. A few months of discussion might be needed to make the transition.
OMGosh, this is great! What is the downside? I cannot thank of any.
Good.
This means he has a plan. Getting rid of it is complex process.
Too many here want magic bullets for everything.
The “Department of Indoctrination” should be closed now!
LET’S ROLL!!! No more programming and brainwashing America’s children. School shootings were never a major problem until the Department of Education’s union **** show came along.
This is great.
But people need to realize that virtually 100% of the staff and administrators in the government school systems are far Left nutcases. You can’t get very far in that career unless you have proper political ideas.
Getting rid of DOE rules, and DOE money, is a big help. But the government school systems are still rotten to the core.
We need to provide incentives for parents to pull kids out of government schools.
Make it so! As one educated in the 1950s and 60s rural Mississippi, I am stunned by the abject ignorance of so many of the younger generations. We have to focus on the basics, with heavy emphasis on STEM if we are to compete in the future.
As one educated in the 1950s and 60s rural Mississippi, I am too!..................
If the DOE disappeared today the states would continue to run their schools just fine tomorrow without them and the schools would improve drastically over time.
I bet we know folks in common.
The Department of Education is the most hostile anti-American institution ever assembled outside the Kremlin or Beijing.
I calculated the Spending Per K-12 Pupil as if to create a block grant to individual School Districts with the funds from an eliminated Federal Department of Education.
$15,000 per kid, about the same as local spending.
We could literally double K-12 education spending by giving it directly from the Treasury.
Maybe we return half of that to taxpayers, and half to local school districts. Absolutely everyone would be better off, except leftist bureaucrats in D.C.
Excellent!
