Macron says price of peace 'cannot be the collapse of Ukraine' amid 'real' Russian threat to Europe
The Journal ^ | March 5, 2025 | Macron says price of peace 'cannot be the collapse of Ukraine' amid 'real' Russian threat to Europe

The French president also warned that Europe must be prepared for the US “not to be at our side” going forward.

FRENCH PRESIDENT EMMANUEL Macron has said that peace “cannot be achieved by abandoning Ukraine” as he warned of the “real threat” to Europe from Russia.

Addressing the nation over the current global uncertainty in the wake of the radical change in US policy on Ukraine under Donald Trump, Macron also said that Europe has to be ready for the US “not to be at our side” going forward.

It comes amid the breakdown in relations between Trump and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy following their explosive Oval Office meeting last week.

...

“We are entering a new era,” Macron said this evening.

He said it is not just the people of Ukraine fighting for their freedom, but that European security is also under threat.

“If a country can invade its neighbour in Europe and go unpunished… peace can no longer be guaranteed on our own continent.”

Macron said Russian president Vladimir Putin ”is violating our borders to assassinate opponents, manipulate elections, hack hospital systems”, with “lies being disseminated on social media”.

He said Russia is spending more than 40% of its budget on armament, adding that it plans to have an additional 300,000 soldiers by 2030. “Who can believe that in this context, Russia will stop at Ukraine?

He continued: “To remain a spectator in this dangerous world would be crazy. We need, without any further ado, to take steps to guarantee the security of France, Europe and Ukraine.”

The French president said it was necessary to continue to help Ukraine until “a solid and lasting peace” with Russia can be negotiated “for themselves and for all of us”.

‘We can’t take Russia at its word'

So, Macron reasserts France's role in the continent. The failure of France to stand up to Hitler and let Germany escape the Versailles Treaty more than anything else caused WWII. Today, Macron declared that France will lead Europe to defend Ukraine as Trump embraces Putin.

The collapse of Ukraine is already done, Macaroni. You’re just virtue signaling on that point.

Russia is not going to fight their way across The Ukraine just to take a shot at Portugal

First it is a flat out lie that Trump is supporting or aligning with Putin.
Second France needs to send troops and money then, they was war they can go for it,
Third don’t expect America to bail Europe out this time, you are on your own.

Lastly Europe is rapidly showing they are less stable and more oppressive than Russia with new laws now requiring sentencing of straight white males to be harsher than minorities for the same crimes and the near total removal of all free speech. Europe is an enemy of what’s left of the free world.

He might be right my friends. Would you trust Putin or Hitler at 1938 Munich?

Trump may know it and may just want the euroweenies to enforce any agreement. Since Russia’s military is depleted why should we care?

How many Frogs are willing die to take the Donbas region back from Putin? Macron is dangerously over-estimating his country’s appetite for war.

Ukraine has population of 37 million
Russia has population of 144 million
USA has population of 340 million
Europe has population of 740 million

It’s like a cat and a large dog are in a fight. There’s an elephant that is terrified of the dog, so he appeals to a bear to provide support to the cat so the dog doesn’t end up killing everyone.

First thing Macron can do is quit lying about the “threat” to Europe by Russia.

Once he starts being honest, then we can talk!

Actually France's role in The Treaty of Versailles, along with the help of the UK, in installing terrible reparations and strictures on Germany, is EXACTLY what caused the rise of Hitler and the Nazis in the first place.

Macron obviously knows NO factual world history of the 20th century! I wonder what subject his now wife taught him.

Poke the bear when their back is against the wall? Kind of inviting a nuclear exchange, aren’t you?

All fine and dandy getting Europe to stand up...best offense being a good defense...but I’m sure they’d act as if we would step in to save them. They need more serious leaders.

Vivek tore Nikki Haley a new one in the debates. He asked which Oblasts Russia wants in Ukraine.

No response, she just wanted war.
