Media report estimates 95,000 Russian troop deaths so far in Ukraine

The Kremlin declined to comment Tuesday after the release of a report documenting the deaths of more than 95,000 Russian soldiers fighting Ukraine. The report was based on open-access data collated by independent Russian news outlet Mediazona in collaboration with the BBC's Russian Service.

On the third anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion on Monday, Mediazona published an infographic with images and official reports of deaths of soldiers collated from various sources including social media, news reports and obituaries.

Mediazona and the BBC have been updating the list since the offensive began.

Each entry includes accessible information on the soldier including age and date of death, region and unit, and photograph in some cases.

The online list at 200.zona.media currently stands at 95,300.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told AFP on Tuesday he was not aware of the publication and neither confirmed nor denied the toll.

Russia rarely gives casualty figures for the conflict. The defence ministry said in September 2022 that 5,937 soldiers had been killed in combat.

At the end of 2024, then US defence secretary Lloyd Austin spoke of 700,000 Russian soldiers who were killed or wounded.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky told US broadcaster NBC this month that more than 46,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed and around 380,000 wounded, while other estimates have been much higher.

Independent Ukrainian war correspondent Yuri Butusov said in December that his army sources estimated 70,000 dead and 35,000 missing.

It was actually a million times more than that. [/s]

Tulsi has other things to deal with but eventually we will get some accuracy on this matter.

We have none now.

Dr. Rice -who as you know isn’t a fan fav on FR - is sounding fairly Trumpian.

https://www.noozhawk.com/condoleezza-rice-takes-center-stage-at-westmont-college-presidents-breakfast/

“I think in situations like this, nobody really wins because there’s been so much devastation. But if Ukraine can continue its sovereignty, its independency, its security and gain prosperity, Ukrainian people will have won something from the horrors of this war,” Rice said.

She said that even though Russia may retain some of the territory it gained, Russian President Vladimir Putin cannot feel like he won. She added that the goal is to prevent Putin from threatening the Ukrainian nation ever again.

Another issue Rice discussed was education and how it is always targeted by totalitarian governments.

She added that keeping people from reading prevents them from expanding their horizons. One example she gave was when the Taliban prevented young girls in Afghanistan from learning how to read.

95,000 I can believe - not the laughable claims of half a million or more made by some propaganda outlets. The Ukrainians have probably had about half a million killed most of them by Russian artillery which is always the biggest killer on the battlefield.

Sounds reasonable but a little on the light side. The Russians currently are seeing 1000+ Russian boys killed a week. And I’m told DJT has no leverage over Putin. My arse, Trump is in the process of stopping those deaths. That is massive leverage for a person who loves his country’s armed forces like both Trump and Putin do.

Honesty on casualty figures already started and has been shared with Macron and Starmer, in my estimate

After the French Staff and Macron met with Trump and his Cabinet:
The figure below may be KIA and seriously WIA

Yesterday, Macron (President of France) let it slip in an interview that the death toll of young men in Ukraine is now 1.8 million

It’s a different number in every “reliable source” article you read.

I could not care less who wins in Ukraine war. It does not affect Americans. Same like who owns the oil in Middle East. Dictators or Mullahs. They all sell same oil on same world market.

Austin and the Pentagon have/had been feeding the American public with Ukrainian intel which is why many people have no idea of the horror Trump is trying to stop against Ukrainians

At least MediaZone is open about its methodology, which is similar to that used by the western powers during WW2 to try to calculate German losses

If they hand lost almost 2 million that would mean 6-8 million wounded.

If that were the case Russia would be in Kiev or at least have taken back Kursk and Donbas

Hmmm, that Dog Whistle again. Looks like USAID money is still making it to the media.

...and by the way, the 95,000 number is pretty much accurate, and a good sign that we’re getting truthful data.

Yes. It sure would be nice if they did the same with Ukrainian combat deaths, but that wouldn’t be politically correct. We’re supposed to just believe whatever the Ukrainian government says.

--- "...eventually we will get some accuracy on this matter. We have none now.

The last three years of warring between still-non-NATO Ukraine and non-NATO Russia have been flush with all sorts of claims, estimates and assertions.

During these last three years, all those militant EU "leaders" have yet to march their national troops across the border and into the war zone as military allies on the ground, all the while hoping we will do something like that. And all based on very little verifiable information as to casualties, dead and wounded alike.

Indeed, as to accurate information through the media and spokes-holes, "we have none now."

Which is why, despite my interest in what’s going on, I stay away from most of the threads, both sides lie through their teeth, and you can’t trust anything either side says.
