Denver Mayor Mike Johnston wants to add a 20% service charge to local restaurant tabs — and then tax it — to help restaurants cope with the city’s minimum wage and promote what he called pay equity among tipped and non-tipped employees.

On Monday, Johnston told City Cast Denver, a popular podcast, that he has already been discussing the idea with restaurant owners. He didn’t say whether they are on board. He also did not discuss if increasing people's dinner costs would decrease restaurant visits.

Johnston has incurred the ire of some local restauranteurs, who this month penned a letter expressing their frustrations with the city for everything from public safety worries and negative perceptions of downtown to parking and infrastructure needs.

That’s about as good as taxing the rich to increase revenues.

YES..because here in NYC I haven’t slashed my UBER orders by 90 percent!!

And that’s not an exaggeration...that bills I get the UBER puts up to “increased labor expenses” or however they put it is so prohibitive, that I actually get off the couch and go pick up what I want.

Besides the discount meals at the body killing fast food places I like, everything else is a fortune.

I started eaton salmon from the store because it’s still cheaper than restaurant food is now.

They have made me resort to eating healthy sometimes!

It is already stupidly expensive to eat out. Crazy. I used to eat out all the time. Loved it. Now? I cannot justify it. And after raising the minimum wage, they want to make it even more expensive.

Hard to believe, but this is how Leftists roll.

There it is. Like liberals everywhere, Mayor Johnston doesn’t really care about small businesses. It’s all about raking in more tax money to fund their stupid projects.

His solution to the city letting the downtown go to hell: force restaurants to drastically raise prices! That will solve the problem of people having a reason to even consider going down there.
