President Donald Trump reversed course on Friday and said Russia did in fact invade Ukraine, and that Kyiv would soon sign a minerals agreement with the United States as part of efforts to end the Ukraine war.

Regarding those minerals, Putin demands all of Ukraine east the Dnieper River (among other things). This includes the vast swath of minerals deposits (metals, oil and natural gas) that stretch from the Donbas region through the northern tier of Ukraine. How does giving in to Putin jive with Ukraine turning over its mineral deposits to the U.S.?
American companies were developing the oil and natural gas fields prior to the 2022 invasion. This development was complicated by existing contracts between Ukraine and Russia for the shipment of Russian oil and natural gas to western Europe, and by sanctions imposed on Russia of its 2014 invasion of Ukraine. Then, with the 2022 invasion, Russia attempted to secure the oil and natural gas of the northern tier of Ukraine with armies from the east and the north; but, was largely repulsed by the Ukrainian army. Now, Putin seeks to gain control of Ukraine's minerals via a peace deal between him and Trump.

Putin said the same thing at the time and has never denied it...so what’s the big deal.
But regardless, the two areas, with their heavy Russian population and SPECIAL STATUS were the cause for a civil war...And Ukraine saw it as an opportunity for ethnic cleansing. And the war grew....
I’ve never really cared very much about the back-and-forth details. Perhaps I have this wrong in my head, but I believe it went like this:
Ukraine used artillery to shell some Russian-controlled areas. (So, Ukraine attacked Russia.)
And then when Russia got fed-up, Russia gathered some forces and rolled into Ukraine (So, Russia invaded Ukraine.)
Trump may have made two non-contradictory statements.
But, really, I don’t much care.

All the s***holes on the planet invaded and attacked the U.S. at the same time and no one did anything to stop it.
No one asks whether both positions could be correct. Yes, Russia attacked Ukraine, but why did it occur? Who was it that was doing the goading?
We don’t need Ukraine’s oil. We don’t need Ukraine at all.
Trump never said Russia didn’t invade Ukraine. He said that the Biden admin did all they could to provoke Russia and Russia took them up on it.
Joe Biden said that we could tolerate a little bit of Russian invasion. I will not just forget about that.

He did, however, imply that Ukraine's pursuit of NATO membership contributed significantly to the conflict’s origins (started/provoked).
I think Russia was wrong to invaded, BUT I understand why Ukraine is 3xtreamly paranoid about there western flank.

This is the billion(s) dollar question.
I never noticed anything about Russia invading Ukraine until Biden opened his big mouth about it. Seemed like it came from out of the blue. I’m sure there were machinations going on behind the scenes, but the invasion happened not long after Biden came out and said them.
Lets see...James Baker told the Russians that they would not move one inch east with NATO. They did.
Before 2014 the abuse of the ethnic Russians was started by the scum Banderites that had got control over the Ukie government.
2014 the overthrow of the legitimately elected government by the backing of one particular skank in the Obama administration.
After 2014 and the mass killing of opposition by the Banderite Nazi regime, the mass slaughter of ethnic Russians in Eastern Ukraine began.
After about 12 to 14 thousand killings, and the filing of crimes against humanity charges by many governments against the Nazi Ukrainian regime, the Russian government took action.

BTW. Feb 1st or 2nd prior to the invasion. The Polish government passed resolutions condemning Ukrainian Banderite atrocities against Poles and Jews during WW2. The Ukrainian government denied it.

Some Russians have said this. Putin has said that the countries of eastern Europe are next.
