President Trump is about to unleash DOGE on the only government agency that has never passed an audit: the Pentagon. With an annual budget rapidly approaching a trillion dollars per year, no other pot of discretionary spending comes close. Moreover, the Pentagon recently failed its 7th consecutive audit, underscoring an ongoing breakdown in financial accountability that would never be tolerated at a publicly traded company. An agency receiving nearly a trillion taxpayer dollars to defend our nation should be held to at least the same standard. Imposing some fiscal discipline through targeted cuts is a good place to start. Big-ticket weapon systems that have outlived their usefulness or never really worked in the first place make for obvious targets. As DOGE master Elon Musk has already suggested, the F-35 — with its overloaded mission set, serious performance issues, and $2 trillion price tag — has earned its place on the cut list.

Let the bodies hit the floor.
Ya know, when I first started saying that I bet the Pentagon budget could be slashed by 25 percent and we would STILL get what we needed if there was no graft or waste...I thought I was gonna get CLOBBERED on this board.
“you’re a concern troll who wants the US military to be weak!!”...stuff along those lines.
But no...not once was I attacked.
Many seem to agree that we are not getting our money’s worth.
To be clear, I want the BEST military in history!!
But throwing money at something doesn’t make it the best.
I think 600 billion used correctly would be better than the 800 billion being thrown at God knows what.
Anyay, I was suprisingly shocked to see that defense spending wasn’t a holy grail to most on here.
It was to me once, before I knew how crooked our govt was and that the Pentagon couldn’t acount for Trillions!!
That changed my mind :)
Now with my Tump panics for half a year, I deserved to be called a concern troll!!
You people can’t know I’m on xanax and am an anxious wreck during elections! :)
“OMG Trump said that?!!!” “OMG he did what?!?!” “OMG he just blew the election!!”
:)
I would have banned me for being a concern troll.
But no...concerned TOO MUCH, and too untrusting in Trump, yes.
Not a troll...just a mess :)
BTTT
We all know now just how much corruption the American government has become. In light of so much revealing over the years, we all know that there are people who walk the earth who are willing to trade millions of lives for fortunes of their own.
I am the same, but I eat instead of taking Xanax. If the judges would stop messing with stuff I can go back to counting calories.
I get it.
It’s like we are still fighting WW II with really expensive updated conventional weapons.
If you look at the Russia/Ukraine war everything is changing.
That war has reverted back to WW I trench warfare with modern technology that obsoletes conventional weapons.
Drones and Drone swarms have proven to be devastating to conventional armaments like APCs, Tanks, etc.
I agree with you; a rethink of modern warfare could probably reduce the military’s budget significantly with no loss of combat power.
Hope it Exposed Milley, Brown, and that other DEI hire!
I spent over 5 years in the USAF, we were on such a tight string your butt puckered.
When it came to civilian employees
they had free reign!
how to fix DOD?
Make it ALL military
so every one is subject to the UCMJ.
it will clean up quickly!
I like your idea. Get rid of the civilians and make it all military. That’s the way it used to be. If movies and MASH are any indication, even filing clerks once had military ranks.
GREAT IDEA!!
As an aside, I once had a conversation with a military person. I asked him if I had joined the military and went into military archives to serve my time what my eventual rank might be.
He wasn’t happy with my question, because he had a low opinion of those who became officers without doing field work. However, he did admit that it was possible that if you enlisted at the youngest possible age and spent your career doing paperwork, that it was possible to become a lieutenant colonel if you served enough time and were free of problems.
The greatest waste and abuse and the cause for inability to pass audits comes from Congress due to spending that is mandated in nonpublic budget papers that accompany appropriations. In that manner, money gets directed by key members of Congress to specific suppliers and programs without regard to merit. In essence, those money awards cannot be tracked to a competitive bidding process and therefore violate accounting and auditing rules.
Most of the civilians are retired military. They retire and take the civilian job doing the same thing for triple the money.
This will be fun.
That is probably best, however my question was just out of fun. I was surprised that somebody could rise so high without having done a field commission. I don’t know if my scenario was possible, finsh boot camp and then start filing papers for life.
No more $900 toilets for you!!
