Report: Biden Admin Made Improper Payments Totaling $236 Billion in 2023
Breitbart ^ | February 04, 2025 | Wendell Husebo

The Biden administration wasted $236 billion in improper payments throughout 71 federal programs in 2023, according to the Government Accountability Office.

The improper payments underscore President Donald Trump’s vow to clean up the administrative state and his support of DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) and of Elon Musk’s audit of the federal government to cut waste, fraud, and abuse.

The massive sum — three-quarters of which was reportedly overpayments – was just a portion of the federal deficit ($1.8 trillion) under the Biden administration.

The New York Times reported the Government Accountability Office’s analysis:

Mr. Musk has told administration officials that he thinks they could balance the budget if they eliminate the fraudulent payments leaving the system, according to an official who discussed the matter with him. It is unclear what he is basing that statement on. The federal deficit for 2024 was $1.8 trillion. The Government Accountability Office estimated in a report that the government made $236 billion in improper payments — three-quarters of which were overpayments — across 71 federal programs during the 2023 fiscal year.

The massive waste will likely encourage the Trump administration to clamp down on government outflows.

Musk has already focused on the Treasury Department and its payment system that disburses trillions of dollars of federally allocated funds, the Times reported last week

Two weeks in and he already uncovering massive amounts of waste. I like to think of Elon Musk and DOGE as “OUR” auditors of the federal government spending. For years we have had to rely on what the government told us where our tax dollars were spent. And now, with Elon Musk and DOGE, our suspicions of corruption throughout the federal government have been and will continue to be validated.

I guess that’s the advantage of having a POTUS and an auditor that can’t be bought . . .

It was not WASTE. It was deliberate graft, payoffs, and kickbacks. There is a reason for Biden pardoning his own family.

When you drop off a recon team, the help may make several landings around the area so nobody knows exactly where the team was inserted.

Biden’s main goal was pardoning his own family. So he hid that in a wave of 1600 pardons and numerous pardons around DC. It would top off everyone if he only pardoned his family...as was the main goal.

Unbelievable. I never sign a check without the backup paperwork showing the purchase order, the invoice, and the receipt of goods.

As Everett McKinley Dirksen said, “a billion here, a billion there, pretty soon you’re talking about real money.”

I strongly suspect it’s actually quite a bit more than $236 Billion.

So I don’t get it or if the writer math illiterate.
236 billion is out of 1.8 trillion is 13.1 percent of the the funds were improperly made. That is still a boat load of cash. so seeming to write it off as a rounding error is inane and disingenuous.

Sorry, my bad. it was not the writer of this article I was complaining about. It was my reading into the article that I got a bad taste in mouth and did some projection of how bad the numbers are and the likely response to the issue. A Clinton level “so what” comes to mind of the response from Biden and his flunkys if confronted.

Reviewing paperwork is a good start—but physical inspection is the only way to catch determined fraudsters.

The Biden gang prohibited physical on site inspections by Inspector Generals as one tool to facilitate fraud by their allies.
