Trump Vowed to 'Immediately' Bring Down Egg Prices. His New Press Secretary Says Sudden Spike Is Biden's Fault

Donald Trump made a campaign promise to "immediately bring prices down" on his first day in office. Instead, egg prices have spiked.

During her first White House briefing, press secretary Karoline Leavitt blamed former President Joe Biden for hurting the egg supply and driving up costs.

Egg prices are expected to continue rising due to a bird flu outbreak, which Biden's Department of Agriculture tried controlling early on by euthanizing infected chickens.

Egg prices have risen in the short time since President Donald Trump took office — despite his campaign promise to "immediately bring prices down, starting on day one" — leading White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt to begin mounting her boss's defense.

In her first official White House press briefing on Tuesday, Leavitt, 27, blamed former President Joe Biden for rising costs with "everything" across the country right now — including eggs, which have started to increase in price and demand due to bird flu outbreaks among chicken flocks.

"There's a lot of reporting out there that's putting the onus on this White House for the increased cost of eggs," Leavitt said. "I'd like to point out to each and every one of you that in 2024 when Joe Biden was in the Oval Office — or upstairs in the residence sleeping, I'm not so sure — egg prices increased 65 percent in this country."

FACT: The Biden administration was actively working its lame duck time to do what it could to undermine Trump's agenda.

“ Donald Trump made a campaign promise to “immediately bring prices down” on his first day in office. Instead, egg prices have spiked.”

Nonsense.

The egg price spike happened in January.

Prices were high during the entire Brandon days. But they doubled or tripled just a few weeks.

Anyone with a functioning brain knows high egg prices are in no way President Trump’s fault. It’s absurd; only an idiot would blame him.

In addition to the various 2024 problems that drove up egg prices, Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer signed legislation requiring that all (with few exceptions) eggs sold in the state be from cage-free sources, effective Jan 1st. Some stores had virtually no stock during the transition period, which further exacerbated the already slim supply and added even more to the price.

Oh, I forgot - all this is Trump’s fault. Everything he says is a lie and he cares about nobody but himself... /s. 🙄😖

Biden's USDA ordered the slaughter of 100 million laying hens because they had the chicken sniffles. That's why eggs are expensive.

Was Trump supposed to decree them back to life via executive order?

I thout egg prices went up because of “bird flu”.

I buy pasture-raised eggs at Natural Grocers, $6.99 per dozen. Went there two days ago and not an egg in the store. Why? They refuse to pay the outrageous prices they are selling for now. My Safeway is selling them for over $10 per dozen. Outrageous even for excellent eggs.

Then I went to Trader Joe and they have plenty of pasture raised eggs, their own brand for $4.99. Lucky to have all three of these stores in my neighborhood.

BTW, pasture-raised eggs are best for you, have more omega 3 and if you care about animal welfare, which I do, best for the chickens who can run around on the grass and eat bugs and worms and the natural things chickens eat. Not that horrible grain junk fed to the poor birds in cages and even free-range, because the “range” can be several yards of concrete outside the barns.

FWIW, the avian flu isn’t killing millions of chickens.
The gov. is killing millions of chickens because they’re hysterical about the avian flu.

FWIW, the avian flu isn’t killing millions of chickens.

They kill the chickens in order to try to prevent the avian influenza from reaching other flocks. This is an HPAV--highly pathogenic avian influenza--which wipes out a flock within 48 hours. The culling is done at the first sign of avian influenza to try to get ahead of the virus and keep it from reaching other flocks.

What this means is that without the culling, the avian influenza would wipe out almost all of our chickens. Because it would just spread and spread.

Yeah, sure. If that were true then no one would ever raise any chickens.
It would be a perpetual chicken slaughter to save the chickens.

Go pedal your goofy nonsense on Reddit.

Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer signed legislation requiring that all (with few exceptions) eggs sold in the state be from cage-free sources, effective Jan 1st.

Well, that is beyond dumb. Chickens catch avian influenza from wild birds (mostly ducks). Being cage-free suggests that they are kept in outdoor pens, where they are fully exposed to any viruses brought by wild birds. In order to keep chickens from catching wild bird diseases, they have to be kept in clean facilities that prevent any contact with exterior wildlife.

Chickens raised for influenza vaccine production live in sealed facilities that no one can enter without full PPE. We almost need the same to protect our egg and meat supply.

Including slaughtering millions of chickens.

It takes time to grow chickens to egg laying maturity.

And then the eggs must be processed, packaged, and shipped.

It takes time and these leftists are refusing to give Trump the grace they sure gave to biden et al

Can anybody tell me if he actually said that? I keep seeing that claim made by the media and libs but I don’t know one way or the other. I did not watch all of his speeches and but it seems to me what I heard him say on the subject is that he would implement policies on day 1 to bring prices (of everything) down. It’s about all he can do without actually being the dictator they think he is going to be.
