America's Big Cities Are Being Led by Incompetent Democrats, But Republicans Gave Up Trying to Compete
PJ Media ^ | January 26, 2025 | Rick Moran

Donald Trump traveled to Los Angeles on Friday to view firsthand the massive damage of the wildfires. But unlike other presidents who might have played nice with local politicians dealing with an unprecedented disaster, Trump let Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass have it with both barrels.

...

We are going to do everything we can, slashing regulations, expediting everything so that people can begin the process right away," Bass said during the meeting.

That's not true, as Trump pointed out.

"We know the one thing is they are saying they will not be allowed to start for 18 months," Trump said of the 18-month timeframe.

"That will not be the case," Bass responded. "First, we have to take care, to make sure that there's not that getting rid of the hazardous waste, cleaning things up, so that people can start right away."

"Cleaning things up so people can start right away"? What kind of double talk is that?

Trump wouldn't let her off the hook.

"They want to start now. They want to start removing things and are not allowed to do it now," Trump said.

America's big cities have been in deep trouble for most of this century.

...

One-party politics is killing America's largest cities.

...

The Republicans gave up competing in big cities so that now, the only ideas that are debated and voted on in those cities are radical left policies — policies that aren't working and are, in fact, making the problems they claim to be addressing worse.

Add to that a suicidal inability to change, to reform, to do what's necessary, and you have a recipe for total disaster. Rather than admit they could be wrong about illegal aliens, crime, race, or schools, these mayors double down and pretend

They shouldn’t have. I’m sure they could have been every bit as incompetent if they had just tried.

Many here will either wallow in the mud of decaying blue cities...i guess it makes them feel better about themselves :)

They are NOT like Trump AT ALL.

Thank God.

Trump never saw a city or state that he thinks is impossible to change...and the pickup in votes for him in areas that were supposedly not possible to budge...shows that with enough real effort by GOOD candidates...things can change.

Alas, there is only one Trump and way too many buffoons on the right AND way too many stuffy Rs who are afraid to get their hands dirty in certain neighborhoods and fight to change things.

It couldn’t hurt.

Those blacks who were forever stuck at 5 to 8 percent going for Rs...including black men..saw black men under 30 go THIRTY PERCENT for Trump.

What is that...1 100 percent increase...a 200 percent increase over what happened with other Rs who ran for president?

Imagine if someone like Trump could keep building on that at a city level?

GREAT THINGS are possible if one only tries sand believes.

The Great One (Ronald Reagan) and the new but definitely different Great One! both know/knew this. :)

He picked up some votes which help in a state-wide election but we’re just blips on a city total.

Other article highlights from PJ Media/ Rick Moran

“It didn’t used to be that way in New York and Los Angeles. In the Big Apple, Rudy Giuliani and Mike Bloomberg won five successive elections in the 1990s and early 2000s. During their tenure, crime dropped, the economy boomed, and the city thrived.”

“In Los Angeles, Republican Richard Riordan served two terms in the 1990s as mayor, lowering crime and taxes, “leaving the city a better place” according to his critics.”

The people in those cities have given up, moved out, or sought to benefit from the chaos. It was the same in Russia at the end of Communism. The system got more and more corrupt as people gave up trying to do what was right and simply stuck their hands out to profit from the mess.

“Trump got more votes in big blue cities than any modern Republican. Can he help local GOP parties make a comeback and compete with the left in the arena of ideas? “

Over 6 million Californians voted for President Trump, more than any states except for Texas and Florida.

I wish liberating California was a priority for the Republican Party and MAGA. I’m not going to leave, I’m going to fight to make it better, just the way I think people from other nations should worry about making their own countries better rather than fleeing.

We have to start with fixing blue cities in red states.

When Trump starts bringing down crime (deporting criminal illegals, reducing illegal drugs), bringing back jobs (tariffs), and raising education standards (vouchers, elimination of CRT and other woke nonsense from the curricula), voters at the margins and in the middle will take notice. Hispanics already have. Black men are starting to.

Timing also matters, some places (California big cities) are so corrupt and rigged spending real money to compete was useless.

Until a serious crack in the facade occurs, much like the wildfire now, an opportunity presents itself, prior to the wildfire it was useless to try until the ignorant population finally got a dose of what they voted for, good and hard.

As long as Commiefornians cling to their “right” to butcher babies in their mothers’ wombs, Republicans will never make headway in state government. What amazes is how many pro-death Commiefornians there continues to be. You’d think they would’ve eradicated themselves by now.

Here is what President Trump is talking about: Napa County's mind boggling, complicated, and highly bureaucratic "Consolidated Debris Removal Program". Pardon me for posting a lot of this FAQ, but I wanted everybody to see the insanity in CA and exactly what President Trump is talking about. The State does nothing but erect barriers to getting things done.
Frequently Asked Questions ("FAQs") Related to Fire Debris Removal

Para obtener información y apoyo en español, llame a la línea de información del Condado de Napa al 707-299-1350.

What is the Consolidated Debris Removal Program and who has to participate?

In general, local agencies significantly impacted by major wildfire incidents may receive additional resources for responding to the disaster from State and Federal agencies when a local public health emergency has been declared. As a result, the safe and appropriate removal of household hazardous waste (HHW) and debris and ash from burned properties is managed under the Consolidated Debris Removal Program.

Debris and ash from residential and commercial fires contain many hazardous materials, created through the burning of synthetic and toxic materials. Household products such as gasoline, cleaning products, pesticides, freon, lead, asbestos, and other chemicals may have been stored in homes, garages, or sheds that burned in the fire. These materials can be present in the ash and soil following a fire. Exposures can occur by sifting through ash and debris, causing ash to become airborne and inhaled or ingested. The improper handling and disposal of hazardous material may impact you, the environment, and the general public health.

The Consolidated Debris Removal Program has two phases: Phase I, the removal of household hazardous waste and Phase II, the removal of other remaining fire-related debris.

What does Phase I entail?

Phase I is the mandatory inspection and removal process of hazardous wastes from all burned properties before the removal of structural debris and ash. The local public health declaration allows for a government agency to enter properties to assess and remove hazardous waste, and conduct assessments to ensure hazards are mitigated. County, state and federal agencies organize teams of experts to inspect your property and remove any household hazardous waste that may pose a threat to human health, animals, and the environment such as batteries, herbicides, pesticides, propane tanks, asbestos siding, and paints. You do not need to do anything to have household hazardous waste (HHW) removed from your property.

What does Phase II entail?

Phase II is the removal of structural debris and ash from a property once Phase I is complete. There are generally two options for Phase II debris and ash removal; a government option and a private option.

[lots and lots of blah, blah, blah process crap removed]

During Phase I, should property owners be there during the HHW removal process? Owners are not required to be present for the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Sweep. The safety of the general public and workers is a priority during HHW Sweep. To prevent safety hazards, the public is encouraged to stay away from areas where HHW Sweep operations are underway. Exclusion zones will be established surrounding the current work area to ensure safety of the public.

How will I know if workers on my property are authorized by the State's Consolidated Debris Removal Program? Also, can I be sued by the workers that are removing Household Hazardous Waste from my property?

The State will provide information and a list of authorized debris removal teams for work to be conducted. The Household Hazardous Waste contractors will be licensed and insured, and their insurance will cover any injuries or damage to equipment that occurs during the Household Hazardous Waste removal process.

If I lost my home in a fire, what are the requirements for placing a temporary trailer on my lot or another lot? There are specific requirements for placing a trailer on your own property or on a friend or neighbor’s property. Please review the information from PBES and the Public Health Officer, and also review the building permit requirements available on the PBES Building Division Web page. It is important that you review both these documents before making an application to the PBES Building Division. All temporary trailers must meet the siting requirements, be connected to approved power and water supply, and be connected to an approved sewer or septic system. Hauling in water or pumping trailer wastewater tanks is not allowed.

What is the process for fire damaged wells and septic systems?

Please review the Fire Disaster Response for Water and Septic document for general information. Please refer to the FEMA assistance with private wells and septic systems document for resources for that may be available from FEMA that are not covered by insurance. Additional information regarding private wells, springs, and septic systems are available on the Environmental Health website.

I'll stop there. There's LOTS more of this bureaucratic, process-oriented gobbledygook at the Napa Country site (if you have the stomach for it). I just wanted everybody to get a taste of what burned-out homeowners have to deal with in CA.

Process, process, process, program, program, program, permits, permits, permits, blah,. blah, blah are the hallmarks of out of control government.

American cities are dominated by people who are incapable of living their lives without the government telling them what to do and giving them the means to do it. There’s nothing “American” about that mentality.

I am reminded of a great comment posted by a Freeper here back in 2008 when Rudy Giuliani’s presidential campaign crashed and burned: ”His campaign went nowhere because he’s the solution to problems most Americans don’t have.”

Yes they do. They also have gobs of Federal money and tax money, which they distribute to maintain and grow leftist bureaucracies. Oh, and they control the courts and law enforcement too. They also have pliant media well in hand. They also have pliant business cronies who profit from them, and do their bidding

Its tough to compete with all that.

These advantages - voting systems, govt money, debt, lawfare, propaganda - need to be taken down at the same time.

Removing the roughly 700,000 illegals in NYC would go a long way in cleaning it up. 1/9 are illegal. Most on welfare.
