Just hours after controversial draft rules for the Texas House were released, the chamber rushed through a vote to approve them—without allowing debate or amendments—escalating tensions between reform-minded Republicans and House leadership.
As reported earlier today, the proposed rules maintained and expanded a power-sharing arrangement between Republicans and Democrats, granting Democrat vice-chairs significant authority and introducing pathways for Democrat control of new standing subcommittees. While Republicans would only be eligible to serve as chairs, all vice-chairs would be required to be Democrats.
The rushed release and subsequent vote raised concerns about transparency and House Speaker Dustin Burrows’ willingness to prioritize the party’s agenda.
During the debate—or lack thereof—State Rep. Todd Hunter attempted to shield Burrows from criticism, claiming that no member, including Burrows, received the rules early. Hunter urged members to direct their frustrations at him instead.
State Rep. Tony Tinderholt proposed postponing consideration of the rules to allow members time to review and amend the 250-page document, as members only received it after 4 a.m. this morning. However, Burrows refused to entertain the motion.
Before amendments could even be offered, efforts were cut off by State Rep. Jared Patterson, who invoked the motion for the previous question, commonly referred to as a “nuclear option.” This rare procedural move immediately ends all debate and forces a vote.

The Republican establishment is nothing more than a wing of the Democrat party.
It should be a reflex move to vote against anything put to a vote like this.
It will inevitably have a poison pill tucked away inside.
The Democrats often have control, and when they have control, they exercise control.
When the Republicans have control, we share power. Which means the Democrats have control, and they exercise control.
No matter how close the margins are NEVER SHARE POWER WITH DEMOCRATS. EVER.
Texas Republicans turned the House over to “empower” the dirtbags, huh? Great.
One loses control of Legislatures slowly at first, then all at once.
Love,
The former Republican majorities in the California Assembly and the New York Senste
Texas’ deep state working quickly to insure its survival and ability to grift. Texas’ Attorney General needs to get busy, unless he’s part of the problem.
There are two faction. The smaller RINO faction made deal with Sh*tocrats to retain control.
Told y’all Texas is hanging by a thread and unfortunately this is the beginning of our beautiful Texas being ruled by Democrats. Austin Texas is full of liberals from San Francisco, Oakland, all over California. They have infiltrated and now comes the price to be paid. California was one’s a beautifully red state until the cockroaches and locusts came in and devoured it ….so Texas face the same fate. I’ve been warning people and was flamed for it left and right. I have family spread all over the state of Texas and I see so much that a lot of y’all don’t. We can win huge races but sooner or later we’re gonna be consumed with liberalism and the downfall of Texas. Call me a Debbie downer whatever you want but Texas is hanging by a single thread. All it takes is one domino to knock the whole system down and it’s finally here the Democrats have finally gotten a grip of the system.
The uniparty rides again.
Who needs enemies with friends like this?
Ditch whoever voted this nut into position. They are too stupid to lead.
Draw up a list of every RINO who supported this. Find good candidates to oppose them and start raising the funding. Make it known to everybody that they’re a bunch of lying, backstabbing scum. Then primary the hell out of every single one of them in 2 years.
The only way this crap ends in the Texas House is you consistently break the careers of any RINOs who do it.
The list would be the Texas House RINO’s that voted for Dustin Burrows for Speaker. My rep Angie Chen Button is one of them. She disgusts me. I did not vote for her last Nov.
Texas state house corruption is a long-established tradition.
The Texas House has been an enigma for some time. The Demo'Rat Party has deeply penetrated the GOP caucus in that state. Voters elect Republicans and then the 'pubbies give all the important committee chairmanships to 'Rats. The GOP controls state wide offices but the legislature is a battle yet to be won.
They are working hard to turn our Texas blue, I hate them all.
He’s not. They lawfare him every two years or so.
Call you more a realist than a Debbie downer. Rea.ity seems to be that Texas is slowly caving to demon driven liberals. The demon driven liberals are absolutely driven by greed, power and corruption and they NEVER EVER rest. They are relentless and full of vengeance. And they never forget or forgive anything. If they feel slighted, they will make the opposition pay for it for the rest of their lives. Their hatred and resulting vengence is demonic in nature, and never rests!
Bush Republicans are Democrats. Never forget that.
