President Donald Trump partially blamed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for Russia’s ongoing invasion of the country.
Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an unprovoked invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, launching a war that continues to this day. Under former President Joe Biden, the U.S. sent billions in aid and weapons to Ukraine to help fend off the invaders. On the campaign trail, Trump was critical of the aid, which many congressional Republicans have vehemently opposed. As a senator, Vice President JD Vance said last year that blocking assistance to the country was his second-biggest priority.
Speaking with Sean Hannity for an interview that aired on Wednesday and Thursday on Fox News, Trump addressed the war, which he once again claimed would not have started had he been president.
“Putin shouldn’t have done it,” Trump said. “He shouldn’t have done it and it has to stop. You know, they’ve lost about 850,000 Russian soldiers and 700,000 Ukrainian soldiers.”
Trump’s figures are almost certainly overstated, as researchers have estimated the Russian death toll at 150,000 and the Ukrainian toll at 62,000.
“Will it be a negotiated settlement and will you lead the negotiations?” Hannity asked.
“Well, I hope so,” Trump responded before promising to impose “massive tariffs on Russia” if Putin does not end the war. However, U.S. imports from Russia are paltry, and so tariffs would likely have little impact.
“And Zelensky, I will say he wants to settle now,” Trump claimed “He’s had enough. He shouldn’t have allowed this to happen either. You know, he’s no angel. He shouldn’t have allowed this war to happen. First of all, he’s fighting a much bigger entity, ok? Much bigger.”
Trump was inaugurated on Monday, but the war in Ukraine continues despite the president’s campaign pledge to end the conflict “in 24 hours.”

President Trump is a wise and compassionate man. He will bring this disaster to an end.

Makes no sense.
So, Zelensky should've surrendered Ukraine to Russia, because, Russia is a much bigger country with a much bigger military? Zelensky should've just rolled over and said, "okay, come get us; we give up'?

It's absurd to suggest Ukraine has less causalities than Russia when Russia has had an 8-1 edge in ammo.
There is no chance Ukrainian causalities aren't at least five times as a great as Russia's.

Zelenski should have purged his military of obvious NeoNAZi elements. Yeah, there stuff he could have done to avoid this.

Your interpretation of what Trump said makes no sense.
You're reading into Trump's remarks something that I'm sure Trump never meant.
Trump is being dubious, and that's part of a negotiating tactic. Keep the parties guessing what could happen. Zelensky and Putin won't know what to make of Trump's comments. Neither do YOU.

No more than the infamous Zeepers do, and this is likely much more accurate.

You know that, how?
What kind of percentage composed the neo-Nazi element in the Ukraine military? And, is that what Trump was talking about when he implied that Ukraine should have simply surrendered? The neoNazis is what Trump had in mind? If not, stop making things up.

You are showing a lack of understanding of war. The attacker often has higher casualties than the defender, especially when the defender is fortified and has good terrain. It is not just a question of you can throw more shells. Any serious student of war knows this.

NO
Zeepers aren’t the smartest...so I’ll keep this simple.
He should have said GET AWAY to NATO.
Would we let Russia make that kind of agreement with Mexico?
Hell, we almost went to war over the same thing in Cuba.
Yeah, I know,.it’s TOTALLY different to your zeeps.
Everything is.
Did you vote for Trump? WE knew how he felt.
Did you guys?

Replying with a nonsense comment, just makes you nonsensical. Make a relevant and cohesive argument that is pertinent to the discussion. There is absolutely no accuracy in anything you said.

You must remember that for the Russians a neo-Nazi is any Ukrainian who believes that they are a separate people from the Russians, i.e., any Ukrainian who believes in Ukrainian independence.

Right on cue, you come up with something that President Trump never even said. Where is the word "surrender" in his comment? You people are as bad as the liberal media, making things up as you go along. I swear all you Zeepers have reading comprehension problems.

“Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an unprovoked invasion of Ukraine in February 2022”
I guess Mediate didn’t get the message. The first sentences is REQUIRED to include the Dog Whistle and should have read:
“Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an unprovoked FULL SCALE invasion of Ukraine in February 2022”

Accurate numbers are almost impossible to find. Population according to wikipedia:
Russia was 147.2 million
Before the war, Ukraine's population was approximately 41 million in 2021.
Ukraine has a population of 37.9 million as of 2024
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Russia had sufficient air defenses and air dominance in the Ukraine. The same is not true of the Ukraine. They lack and lose whatever air defenses are given to them and soldiers had to move on the battlefield under Russian controlled war planes. Russia makes it's own ammo - the Ukraine used up all the ammo donated and couldn't get enough for various offenses they planned. Zelensky never had a fighting fraction of the aircraft, or veteran pilots, that Putin has. The old retrofitted F-16s sent to Ukraine were outdated compared with Russia's options, and Ukraine had no airfields sufficient to protect and maintain them. There never was an armament/aircraft comparison to indicate any kind of a 'draw' in fighting between the two sides, even with NATO/America giving the Ukraine air defense systems and obsolete tanks, missiles launched from Soviet era equipment etc.
For these reasons, I think Ukraine provides the worst accuracy regarding the numbers of KIA and wounded. They didn't have enough men to remove the wounded from the frontlines and when possible, according to Abbe Viganos, some wounded soldiers were used for organ harvesting.
Russia would also like to exaggerate wins/losses, so it's hard to say which numbers are correct. But I do think the numbers are far higher than the MSM reports.
Angela Merkle admitted they only agreed to Minsk treaty in order to buy time for NATO to build up Ukraine's army. I thought estimates back then were a fighting force of 700,000. They've recruited and conscripted steadily since then and are simply running out of anyone who can fight. There are gaps in the front lines. They are giving weapons to poorly trained men and teens who only last hours on the battlefield. They are sending pilots and plane maintenance crews to the front line to fill unmanned gaps - that likely also means they are running out of planes to maintain and, obviously, men to conscript.
For these reasons, I think losses in Ukraine are catastrophic and will be hard to accept when they are finally documented. Putin has been criticized for moving too slowly, particularly in the opening days of the war and he has responded that he will move only at rates which maintain Russian losses at an acceptable level. He has the control to move at rates Russia can field.
Russia has flattened cities and infrastructure in the Ukraine, leaving whatever medical services available to Ukrainian soldiers further reduced. I just think all these factors mean that losses in war are terrible, and Ukrainian losses are quite disproportionate.
Start of the war: Russia had 3.6 times the population of Ukraine. To read that Russia had nearly the same losses as Ukraine is devastating news for Ukraine.
To hear that Ukraine had 1/4 the losses of Russia is simply not believable given their relative conditions. Ukraine is bleeding to death.
Along with DECLARING in their constitution that Ukraine would never be a NATO country.
And, sorry Zeepers, when you live next to a superpower, you do have to stay in your lane, as both Mexico and Canada does here in North America.
