NATO’s Secretary-General Mark Rutte hailed newly inaugurated U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning on Wednesday that Russia could expect more tariffs and sanctions if it did not end the war in Ukraine.
“I was very, very happy with the position of Trump to put more sanctions on Russia. We know that the Russian economy is doing terribly bad[ly], and the sanctions will help,” he told CNBC on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.”
He expressed hopes that Europe will now also “step up” with sanctions in a bid to “choke off the Russian economy” and lessen Moscow’s war coffers.
“Trump is right, Ukraine is closer to Europe, but Trump is also right that it is a geopolitical conflict so I’m sure the U.S. wants it to end with a good and strong deal,” Rutte added.

I couldn’t give a #### if NATO is happy or not.
If the POTUS thinks sanctions will work, that’s fine.
As long as he cuts funding and doesn’t allow our missiles to be lobbed into Russia.
And he has suspended funding and is not allowing our missiles to be used to target sites in Russia.
Russia sees NATO being in Ukraine as an existential crisis.
With NATO’s track record and the way Europe is going....it’s not a stretch.
I don’t think sanctions will end this war or sway Putin’s decision.
But what do I know? :)
I trust neither NATO nor Russia..I don’t trust Ukraine at all.
Not a good situation :)
I trust Trump
Putin better take Trump’s peace deal.
Might be his last chance to save Russia’s failing Economy.
He didn’t read the other memo...no more anything for Ukraine.
Not really - the Russian government see's this as losing the possibility of regaining the Tsarist empire
the Russian people see this as a betrayal of what they think should be "brotherly nations" - of course, they don't think why Russia is massacring a brotherly nation.
I don’t think sanctions will end this war or sway Putin’s decision.

Why not?
Putin expected a short quick victory. That did not happen. He has few option (bringing in North Korean cannon fodder turned out to be a disaster). The war has exposed the corruption, and lack of equipment, and poor training of the Russian military. Russia is a “paper bear”!
The war has shown that Russia is not a threat to Europe.
Putin has lost much in this war, he needs a way to end it. President Trump is giving him a way. First a cease fire, then negotiate a settlement. What terms, that is for them to decide.
President Trump is telling both side there will be a price to pay for both nations and it is time to end the death and destruction that is helping no one.
Could it be that Trump is negotiating terms. Naah, that would be fantasizing. He is going in hold muh beer feet first WAAARRRRR growing a mustache and doing a John Bolton. That’s the ticket.
Look at the title, this thread has nothing to do with Canada.
Try to stay on topic, if you can.

The pivot of you zeepers is, well...quite desperate. lol
And YOU have nothing to do with U.S.
It figures that a war pig like you would back him after years of trying to undermine Trump here.
There is nothing left to sanction.
Trump's goal should be (and appears to be) to get out of Ukraine and to get the Russians and Chinese away from Greenland and the Panama Canal, which are of strategic importance.
Wasting money and time on Ukraine does nothing but undermine the Trump Presidency and that is exactly what globalist pigs want.
Get the U.S. out of NATO and the UN out of the U.S.
Why would he have wanted to do that when by sitting back and waiting, he could deplete the military inventories and tax payer funds of the stupid countries supplying the $hit to Ukraine? That's a much better and more effective strategy. Don't blow your load. Let the other countries blow theirs.
It is not up to Trump, Putin, or Zelenskyy to decide what is acceptable. It is up to the Ukrainian people.
