President Donald Trump’s blanket pardon for more than 1,500 defendants convicted on charges related to Jan. 6 includes Ray Epps.

Epps, who was recorded encouraging others to enter the Capitol, was sentenced to a year of probation and ordered to pay $500 restitution in January 2024.

Prosecutors offered Epps a misdemeanor plea deal after he cooperated with the investigation, recommending a six month jail sentence. Other Jan. 6 defendants received harsher sentences for their actions at the Capitol. (RELATED: ‘Clearly Got A Break’: Legal Experts Weigh In On Ray Epps’ Probation Sentence)

In one of his first actions Monday, Trump commuted sentences for 14 individuals and granted “a full, complete and unconditional pardon to all other individuals convicted of offenses related to events that occurred at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.”

If true, what does this mean? Can Epps be compelled now to testify without being able to plead the 5th (i.e., he would not be incriminating himself)?

If not, then perjury.

If he rejects the pardon then nothing can compel him to speak.

Which nefarious character slipped in Epps’ name? Should be FIRED.

Check the payrolls. FBI? CIA? NSA? Something else? Confirm that he is a federal agent, get him on the stand, and start the questions. He can tell the whole truth without fear of penalty. He has a pardon. But, if he wants to get cagey, then it’s perjury.

Be forced to testify, or pay $500?

That’s the choice this guy gets to make?

“Which nefarious character slipped in Epps’ name? Should be FIRED.”

Seems like a long list but plenty of people had plenty of time to review it. I suspect what others are saying, given his slap on the wrist, it’s preferable to pardon him and then force him to testify. At the very least, he’ll have to dig pretty deep to pay his lawyers.

If Epps is called to testify after taking a pardon, he loses his 5th amendment defense.

Epps has already been fed to the pigs or dropped in acid or whatever.

Yes. He cannot rely on 5th Amendment.

“If he rejects the pardon then nothing can compel him to speak”

What mechanism do you think there is for rejecting a pardon?

the person saying they do not want it. Do you think a pardon can or should be forced on someone?

An individual can reject a presidential pardon. This principle is based on the idea that a pardon is an act of grace that must be accepted by the recipient to take effect. The U.S. Supreme Court affirmed this in Burdick v. United States (1915), where the Court ruled that a pardon “carries an imputation of guilt” and “acceptance of a pardon is an admission of guilt.” Thus, if a person does not wish to accept the pardon, they can refuse it, leaving the legal consequences of their conviction intact.

I certainly hope that Epps can now be compelled to explain who he was working for........or should I say, what government agency he was working for.

I also Hope Trump will release the JFK, RFK, and MLK assassination classified documents. It is time that the CIA, FBI and DOJ are restructured and their duties drastically reduced and refocused.

That’s exactly what it means. Trump gave Epps a get out of jail free card. My guess is that when it is time to name names, either Epps is in front of a committee or dead from suicide.
