Donald Trump spent his first session back in the Oval Office signing executive orders to pardon all January 6 defendants and declare dangerous Mexican drug cartels as 'terrorists' while finding a letter written to him by Joe Biden.
Trump said he was pardoning about 1,500 defendants and issuing six commutations. He also directed the attorney general to seek dismissal of about 450 pending criminal cases against Jan. 6 defendants.
The pardons fulfill Trump's promise to release supporters who tried to help him overturn his election defeat four years ago.
'These are the hostages,' he said while signing the paperwork in the Oval Office.
After hours spent celebrating his new administration, Trump invited the press to his first Oval Office appearance.
Trump found a letter from Biden in the Resolute desk, but only after a journalist reminded him to look for it.
While signing a series of executive orders, a reporter asked Trump if he'd received a letter. Trump said he didn't know and checked the desk drawers, holding up the letter for the cameras.
'Maybe we should all read it together,' Trump said before setting it aside. He said he'll read it himself before sharing it publicly.

Releasing political prisoners. The dark ages of the Biden administration are OVER, this is the GOLDEN AGE.
I hope he goes after these weather forecasters for calling it the Gulf of Mexico instead of the Gulf of America. Prison time for these scofflaws.
They probably would have, if it weren’t for the politicians supporting open borders because they were paid to by the cartels.
This is the day of Liberation
Let freedom brightly shine
Justice for all, our justice.
From exile to White House
From Gulag to liberty
Donald has brought us over
Singing the song of victory:
“Glory to your second term, O Trump”
I can’t believe the U.S. Government held that many political prisoners. I’m embarrassed.
I would have preferred each J6 prisoner being pardoned on each of their own merits rather than a blanket pardon. Heck - I only read the excerpt, so perhaps Trump did have them all reviewed. There may have been some very bad characters that did very criminal things. But just the idea of blanket pardons I don’t care for.
Just as I don’t care for blanket guilty judgements. Which most of the J6’ers were. “Hey - you were there - you’re guilty.”
“Rioters.”
Up yours, Daily Mail.
It was only a blanket pardon, to my understanding, where they didn’t do anything. I don’t think that this included those who did vandalism or other legitimate wrongs.
Drug gang leader: So we shoulda been out there on the Capitol steps then. We coulda got pardons.
Drug gang 2nd in command: Nobody can go back in time and make everything right.
Will tomorrow (Tuesday the 21st) be the first day with Trump’s new Press Secretary taking questions from the media? I am hoping they would prioritize questions from conservative media and make the fake media scum wait their turn or ignore them altogether. I thought that was the plan on his first term with Sean Spicer being the Press secretary but that never happened.
The paperback writers at the “Daily Mail” calling people who took a walk through the US Capitol on January 6th “rioters”???
Why is he the first person in a leading government role that has called out the cartels? Why didn’t Biden ever say this? Why not any Senators or congressmen?
Don’t bother responding...we know why. They’re all on the take except Trump. That’s why the borders remain open. That’s why nobody wants to do anything about it.
They can start with all the climatechange/globalwarming/whatever bozos at the Weather Channel.
Same. I had no idea. Think of the missed family and livelihoods. Disgusting.
I had a dream maybe five years ago. Dream said all of government was paid by the cartels. Exaggerated I am sure. Dreams are weird that way.
I'm glad he pardoned the January 6th protestors.
But it will always be the Gulf of Mexico to me. (Hurrah for the weather forecaster scofflaws!)
Does a president even have sole and final authority to rename geographical locations? I don't think so.
I hate it when the Left renames mountains or landmarks. It subverts tradition, something conservatives claim to value. For the same reason, I don't like it when Trump does it.
Agree. There is no reason to change the name.
Adam Shiffhead is outraged by Pres Trump’s pardons. Child molesters and murderers are let out on the flimsiest of technicalities. Not to mention the scumbags who got pardons from pedoJoe.
Names have power. The goal of the left is to denigrate and diminish the United States by getting rid of names that diminish the role of those who made America great and instead elevate pagan cultures and pagan heroes.
Legally Trump I believe has the power to rename, for government purposes and identification, anything he wants. So if he wants the government and its entities to refer to it as the Gulf of America he can. He's elevating America and diminishing Mexico, a place where the cartels have sway. I've already been calling it the Gulf of America and I'll continue. You do what you have to do.
