This sounds like it's from way down home in the heart of Dixie, but it's actually from way up in Michigan.

Hastings Street--Charlie Spand & Blind Blake (1929)
When I attended the Republican National Convention in Detroit in 1980, I tried to find the address mentioned in this song, 169 Brady Street. However, the area had been extensively redeveloped, and a large medical center was standing on the site. Of all the candidates, delegates, alternates, newsmen and gallery observers, I was probably the only one who tried to find that address.

After
Stagger Lee shot Billy to death in a bar room, he was sent to prison. Don ReVels and the Primettes tell what happened after he was paroled a year later. The Primettes, who are uncredited in this song would later change their name to the Supremes.

Probably no radio station would play this when it came out, and it was probably only available at record stores from under the counter. However, it seems to have been an underground hit. Hope it passes muster here at FR!

Don't Touch the Moon--Cornell Blakely (1958)
Don't touch the moon. I need it for loving.
Don't touch the stars, I need them, too.
All you frantic scientists, find something else to do.
