Apple's board of directors has recommended shareholders vote against a proposal to end the company's diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs, going against the grain of decisions by other large US corporates.
The National Center for Public Policy Research, a conservative think tank, proposed Apple shareholders consider ending the firm's DEI program to prevent lawsuits following a 2023 Supreme Court's ruling against affirmative action in universities.
But the Apple board has recommended voting against the proposal when it meets late this month.
"The proposal is unnecessary as Apple already has a well-established compliance program," said the board, which includes Tim Cook, the California-based company's boss.
"The proposal also inappropriately attempts to restrict Apple's ability to manage its own ordinary business operations, people and teams, and business strategies," it said, accusing the think-tank of trying to "micromanage" the company.
The board said the iPhone maker "is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate in recruiting, hiring, training, or promoting on any basis protected by law".
The proposal will be put to a shareholder vote at Apple's annual general meeting on February 25.

Apple is in no danger of Go Woke, Go Broke. Apple has a cult-like following, even with those customers among its customer base who are the most ardently opposed to their political position.

Most of the time I just ignore proxy statements and board elections. Since I have some Apple stock, I’ll have to vote on this. (Don’t point fingers are me, it’s returned 23% per year since I bought it)
There are a number of people on Apple’s BOD who are actually worthless and there ONLY to promote an agenda.
Even though their Iphones are now considered pretty much premium priced second tier phones.

As I watch Dante’s Inferno unfold in California I am honestly concerned about public mass formation psychosis exhibited by people who have completely lost their minds and are unable to logically deal with reality. For example, they are more concerned about a Delta Smelt than their survivability.
Your comment is a decade or more obsolete. Apple's old "cult" status (which was undeniable while Jobs was alive) developed into widespread market acceptance with the success of the iPhone.
Microsoft is just as adamant about their pro-LGBTQ position, but you don't hear about Windows being a "cult" because it's got a larger market share.
If there's a cult these days, it's the Linux Desktop faction. Those folks are maniacal. :-) Full disclosure: The Linux desktop environment is my personal favorite these days. But I'm not a partisan, I work in Linux, Windows, and MacOS interchangeably all day, it's no big deal. I just find Linux more functional for most of the things I have to do. The others are fine for what they do. (Ping to ShadowAce re: the Linux Desktop comment.)
Anyway, the "Apple is a cult" meme is ancient and obsolete; it no longer applies.
I understand that cult statement. I have 3 brothers that insist that Apple is the only way to go! They won’t even consider other companies or products.

Every progressive is using an iPhone. It's unheard of them not to use anything else.
Even though androids are much better than phones now. They have enhanced zoom capability while you can't do that with iPhones.
That's just one feature I'm talking about.
