Fetterman compares Trump’s Greenland talk to Louisiana Purchase

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) compared President-elect Trump’s talk of acquiring Greenland to the Louisiana Purchase.

Fetterman joined Fox News, alongside Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.), on Tuesday to discuss the concern surrounding Trump’s call to acquire the Danish territory as he prepares to take office again.

“There’s a lot of talk about Greenland, for example, and … there’s a lot of freak-outs and of course, I would never support taking it by force,” Fetterman said.

He continued, noting it would be a “responsible conversation” to discuss acquisition, including “just buying it out.”

“If anyone thinks that’s bonkers, it’s like, well, remember the Louisiana Purchase?” Fetterman said.

In 1803, the United States purchased land west of the Mississippi from the French.

The Pennsylvania Democrat also highlighted the 1867 purchase of Alaska from the Russian Empire. He said he was “open to having all kinds of conversations.”

“Some things might work out, some may not, but that’s part of ongoing dialogue,” Fetterman said.

Trump reiterated his desire to purchase Greenland at a press conference Tuesday at Mar-a-Lago.

Greenland has been of strategic importance to the U.S. since at least the Cold War.

Observers have brushed aside the idea that the U.S. could realistically acquire Greenland, and Denmark has stressed the island is not for sale.

Fetterman said the public needs to pace itself in its outcries over Trump’s remarks since he hasn’t officially taken office yet.

“We really need to pace ourselves if we’re going to freak out over every last tweet or every last conversation or press conference,” he said.

I’ve been wondering if Trump’s Greenland talk is just that. Talk.

Like it’s a distraction for the leftists and MSM to hyperventilate over while he’s getting other stuff done relatively unnoticed.

The USA purchasing Greenland would also be a bit like the purchase of the US Virgin Islands, in that they were also purchased from Denmark.

We occupied Iceland during WWII, since the Nazis controlled Denmark at the time. And then the Icelanders voted for independence from Denmark.

Well back in my 1980’s education, the louisiana purchase was portrayed as a good deal, and Fetterman is making that comparison so....

Whats sad is KJP probably never even heard of the louisiana purchase but mentally compromised Fetterman does!!!

He's trying to get Greenland to go Independent...and that's a grand possibility. Why should Denmark get a piece of any action in trade or "base" acquisitions.

So I'd say it's a wakeup call to Greenlanders...you have something...make it your own.

I just love that Don Jr made a visit....but not as a politician. He met with nobody.

And when Jr arrived at Mar a Lago after his visit...It was like...."Dad...forget the Golf Course....Think Ski Slopes and hunting Camps......right next to OUR Military Bases.

Fetterman seems to be better at seeing the big picture than some Freepers in this instance.

I believe it's quite serious.

In a world of hypersonic missiles and space development - I can see many "strategic thinkers" eyeing Greenland, with only 50K people, as a smart and easy move.

Something people aren’t thinking of regarding Greenland.

Islam is gradually gaining influence in just about every European nation, especially those bordering the Atlantic Ocean.

For all practical purposes England has already been lost.

In any kind of significant hostility the USA will no longer be able to rely on England as an active ally.

And the growing influence of Islam in other European nations is likely to negatively affect their relationship with the USA.

A strong US presence in Greenland would offset the loss of England as a bulwark against potential hostile action originating in Europe.

Fetterman got presidential aspirations for 2028. Keep an eye on him he’s moving to the Center to start building the groundwork for the run. What better way than to use the idiot stupid party to advance his aspiration. He is fake as heck … remember who he is married to. Another Jill with Long black hair! I don’t trust him when iota. He’ll always be a leftist Marxist no matter what. Power corrupts and his wife see an opportunity..a crack in the democrat wall.

I think it certainly serves that purpose - the oxygen has been taken away from the attacks on his Cabinet nominees. But there are real reasons to acquire Greenland, and while negotiating out of public view might be the best way to achieve that, Trump has a proven track record in business and acquisitions. He knows what he's doing.

Greenland has a population of around 56,000. I realize that there are tiny ‘independent’ nations with smaller populations, but none with anything like the square miles of Greenland.

Greenland is going to always, or for at least a very long time, be a protectorate of somebody. Might as well be Denmark or us.
