TOM LEHREROn April 9, America’s favorite wise-ass turns 97 years old. He retired from teaching at UC Santa Cruz in 2001 but still hangs around the campus on occasion. In 2000 he placed all his works in the public domain.
As a Harvard man, Lehrer’s Ivy League humor looked down on Middle Americans in general and Southerners in particular. There was nothing new about this, for it predated the Civil War. Within the context of the 1950s, his humor represented the views of college students who campaigned for Adlai Stevenson. I won’t be posting most of those songs.
His experience as a draftee in the peacetime Army of the 1950s gave him a jaded view of the military, even though he spent his military years working at the NSA. I won’t be posting those songs either.
Lehrer first came to pubic attention in 1953 when he issued a disk of his songs on his own private label. This little ditty is all about his alma mater, Harvard, and its athletic – ahem! cough! cough! – prowess.

Howdy, luvie.
How's it going down your way? Did it cool off as much as they said it would?
I woke up to 60 but it started dropping soon after. The wind makes it feel a lot colder than it is.
I'm dreading next week. It's going to be downright frigid.

Hey there, radu! This is totally me, except I have a diet Coke by my side. LOL!
It was only in the mid-50s and it's 43 right now, so....yes, it did cool down. No wind though, thank goodness!
Sorry you have all the wind. It always makes things much worse!
