Fans of the Christmas classic "It’s a Wonderful Life" are livid over Amazon's abridged version of the movie on its streaming service.
The 1946 hit film, which follows the life of businessman and banker George Bailey, sparked outrage after Amazon cut a pivotal portion.
Amazon's abridged version doesn't include what many consider "the most important scene," known as the "Pottersville scene," in which George wishes he had never been born, prompting his guardian angel to remind him that he needs to earn "his angel wings." Outraged fans said the scene sets up the rest of the movie and, without it, the movie abruptly jumps between scenes without the full context of the story.
In the original version of the movie, George tells his guardian angel, Clarence, that he believes he is better off dead than alive, but Clarence explains to George that he does not know all he has done in his life. He proceeds to show George what his town would have looked like if it hadn't been for all his good deeds over the years. The alternative reality helps George realize he has a wonderful life.
However, in Amazon Prime's version of the movie, details of what led to his changed attitude towards his life are left out. Instead, after the angel tells George he has to earn his wings, the scene cuts to George joyously running through the streets after he's realized the value of his own life.

bummer...I loved Pottersville and I’m pretty sure I’d be hanging out at Nick’s.
Stupid. Just plain stupid. The whole point of the story is in that segment. STUPID!
Double Scotch straight up, nothing to give it "character"!
This can’t be right.
There is no movie without the pathos created in Pottersville.
This shows why we might want to have an actual physical DVD of favorite programs, since we see streaming services may censor them......
For me, a missing scene is finding out the old handicapped coot stole the missing money from George's uncle, with George shooting and burying Potter.
Are you sure Amazon cut it? I wouldn’t think a streaming service has the right to edit a movie.

I “bought” the movie from Amazon long ago and that scene is still there.
Wouldn’t surprise me in the least if they edited it.
I don’t know, I happened to watch the abridged version a few nights ago and having them cut out the 40 minutes, where thick headed George Baily simply can not be convinced that he’s seeing what Bedford Falls would be like without him. Really annoying when someone ignores all available evidence.
I scrolled through the various streaming versions over at AMZ and the Pottersville stuff seems to still be in there, so I’m not sure exactly what the article is talking about.
Too good. Thanks for posting that, I’ve never seen it.
Was there more political and economic freedom in Pottersville or Bedford Falls?
a stupid edit
Having read just two days ago how Barbara Broccoli is fighting against Amazon WOKE Execs who want to squish Bond, James Bond from a hetero woman-loving, boozing, sharp, aggressive white Englishman - this doesn’t surprise me.
I bet the dopes think it would remind WAY TOO MANY Americans WHY we just voted President Trump and MAGA in on Nov 5th - because Pottersville is what we feel like we’ve been living in and about to get worse if Trump didn’t win.
So they didn’t want to allow a familiar dark chord to be struck.
Maybe the scene would have prevented a suicide, liberals are for death.
