Republicans hatch new plan to split votes on government funding, debt limit, disaster aid

House Republicans on Friday began coalescing around a new plan to fund the government before the midnight deadline, preparing to vote on a temporary funding extension separate from other year-end priorities loaded into prior versions of the bill.

The details were still being worked out Friday morning, lawmakers said, but the tentative plan is to split up votes on the disparate priorities and let them pass or fail on their own merits.

That would likely mean a standalone vote on a “clean” extension of current government funding levels through March 14, passing on its own with bipartisan support.

Then there could be a separate vote on roughly $100 billion in disaster aid both parties negotiated to provide relief for communities ravaged by Hurricanes Helene and Milton and other natural disasters.

Another vote could be on $10 billion in economic aid to farmers, tied to an extension of the farm bill that authorizes various agriculture and nutrition programs.

Finally, Republicans will likely include a standalone vote to suspend the debt limit, as President-elect Donald Trump has demanded occur before he takes office.

It’s unclear how long that debt limit suspension may last and if Democrats would vote for it.

A plan that House Republican leaders and Mr. Trump agreed to on Thursday combining government funding, disaster aid and the farm provisions included a two-year suspension of the debt limit. But the president-elect signaled he wants to go further.

“Congress must get rid of, or extend out to, perhaps, 2029, the ridiculous Debt Ceiling,” he posted on social media in the 1 a.m. hour Friday. “Without this, we should never make a deal. Remember, the pressure is on whoever is President.”

House Republicans were set to meet Friday afternoon so leaders could pitch the plan to the full conference and ensure its...

And when the Democrats vote against it Trump can say Democrats shut down the government.

@RepThomasMassie

This isn’t complicated.

Separate the bills and vote on them individually.

one vote on the clean CR

one vote on the debt limit

one vote on disaster relief

one vote on farm bailouts

Radical right? Individual bills for each issue.

“And when the Democrats vote against it Trump can say Democrats shut down the government.”

If Republicans unified, they wouldn’t need Democrats. So many Republicans are simply Democrats in red jerseys that I doubt they’ll ever unify.

Lots of primarying to be done in 2026.

This should be the standard approach to ALL government appropriations bills.

As for the 38 Republicans.

Splitting up the bills like this, to stand on their own merits (or lack thereof), along with a truly clean funding extension (if that's what Johnson is really proposing) is what they want and what We the People deserve.

House Republican negotiators have tentatively reached an agreement on averting a government shutdown at the end of Friday, sources told Fox News Digital.

Two people familiar with discussions told Fox News Digital that the deal would include a short-term extension of this year’s federal funding levels, disaster aid funding, and agricultural support for farmers – but under three separate bills.

Every democrat who complained about cancer funding should have it thrown in their face that the House already passed a bill and its in the Senate.

If the government gets shut down, does that mean we won’t be seeing all the drones?

Exactly. My congressman is one of the 38. I called his office to find out his reasons. Wen the aide read me the response, I commended the Congressman for his vote. He wants to quit wasting money.

My congressthing is also one of the 38. He is, however, not returning to the House next year. He ran for Senate, and lost in the primary.

The Democrats would likely support a clean continuing resolution with nothing attached.

The real issue is Trump wanting the debt ceiling raised or eliminated. Democrats don't want to support that, and there may be some conservatives who go along with them on that.

As a reality check of what our elected overlord hirelings expected us to placidly accept...a word-search of the first CR bill:

Number of instances of these words:

Wall 0
Fence 0
Border 4

Not later than 270 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, and annually thereafter for the following 5 years, the Secretary of State, in coordination with other Federal agencies as appropriate, shall submit a report to the appropriate congressional committees regarding the ties between criminal gangs and political and economic elites in Haiti.

Big. Stinking. Deal.

The authors of this massive globalist bull bill AVOIDED the entire Mexican border issue.

Never forget.
