Nearly all eggs sold in Michigan starting before the New Year must come from cage-free birds, even as egg prices continue to climb.
Michigan lawmakers modified the Animal Industry Act in 2019, requiring shell eggs from chickens, ducks and other fowl, sold in the state to be from cage-free housing systems, starting Dec. 31, 2024.

Cage free huh? I’ll bet they squawk if a person had chickens free ranging on their lawn though.
And this is the politicians representing the people who elected them?
I don’t think so.
This is the face of tyranny. Them pushing their agenda likely for kickbacks and favors, forcing changes on the people that nobody asked for.
Good thing there is a shortage of organic and cage free eggs. This should improve the situation.

I suppose a farm could divide it’s properties into several smaller farms with less than 3k chickens. I know a sizable property can have more than one farm on it. But that doesn’t make this any less ridiculous. What’s next? Gassing them with nitrous oxide before the coup de grace? Feeding them shrooms before beheading?
Agreed, without the sarcasm.
Because eggs don’t already cost enough to please Big Brother.
Do you hear yourself? Have you made yourself aware of the sickening and filthy conditions of the chickens that are stacked in layers and live only to lay eggs?
Cage free at least is a matter of conscience and good farming.
Cage free is cognitive dissonance in neon colors. We are not going to cage this chicken; that would be torture. But, we are going to take their babies and crack open their protective boxes and DROP THEM INTO A FRYING PAN.
I'm not sure this is a bad idea. Animal cruelty is something both conservatives and Christians should be concerned about. And it is cruel for chickens to spend their lives cramped in a cage.
I know some will scream Socialist! and Marxist!
But I've been to Eastern Europe before the Berlin Wall fell, so I've seen the real thing.
I don’t mind laws requiring us to be humane to livestock.
I value the essence of life. Whether it’s a chicken’s or whether it’s yours. Life is a miracle and each individual awareness is precious.
Sorry. Anti-animal cruelty laws are just and humane.
All of animal farming (and hunting) should be about treating animals humanely until they are harvested.
