Republicans should not be afraid of a government shutdown, and should reject the controversial 1,547-page spending deal released Tuesday — filled with pork and special giveaways — former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said.
“President Trump and Republicans should not be afraid of a government shutdown. The next election is two years away,” he began.
“We had two shutdowns in 1995 and became the first reelected house gop [sic] majority since 1928. It may take shock therapy for schumer [sic] and democrats [sic] to learn President Trump is serious about draining the swamp,” he added.

The interns are very afraid.....
How come the government never shuts down during a shutdown?
One of the 535 drops a bill with just the necessary and proper stuff in a hopper (and has a friend in the other chamber drop a copy in a hopper in another chamber).
A vote is called by the Republican leader of a chamber.
The bill passes one chamber.
The shutdown ball is passed to Democrats.
“only approximately 10 pages (15 to 25) are the funding mechanism; the rest is a regulatory construct, an attempt to circumvent the Trump administration, and position the federal government to defend against structural changes President Trump is intending to initiate.
“Within THE BILL, in an effort to force Republicans to support it, there is a section approximately 500 pages, that spends and directs $100 billion for disaster relief in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina following the devasting late season hurricanes. The disaster relief portion should be a stand-alone bill but is included in the massive omnibus spending package because it creates votes to support.”

“The 100th Congress is drawing rapidly to a close. I hope to receive from the Congress the remaining fiscal year 1989 appropriations bills no later than tomorrow, when the current fiscal year ends.”

Interesting...
Newt should be invited to give a pep talk to the Congress Critters.
I wish they’d shut down, shut up and shut off :)
What a catastrophically HUGE government the fouding father never ever, ever envisioned!!
They would roll over in their graves and we’d only have to bury them again...old Groucho Marx joke :)
Seriously, tear it down!
Recall the flood of regulations “Biden” supposedly wants to enact.
A shutdown would stop them in their tracks.
So a new CR with these two items.
So a 2 week PARTIAL shutdown. Just close the Parks...
SHUT ‘ER DOWN.
They’re so used to exceptions that other than national parks and handful of other things they don’t really do much.
All the news media——every time——say “You may not get your Social Security payment or use Medicare or Medicaid or food cards for your children’s next meal if the GOP lets the deadline pass for the shutdown.” Then paragraph 29 of the news reports online: Will not affect Social Security payments or....”
Remember Newt on the Time Magazine cover as the grinch who stole Christmas? Scary Republicans.
I remember a male and female local rock station pair who said after an early continuing resolution expired (woman):
“I think people are so angry that the politicians won’t dare to try that shutdown threat again. People think it looks like a childish breakdown of the government.”
(Male) “But then which of the two sides would agree to back down and lose?”
Take a look at the federal deficit during the Newt/Clinton years.
They fought like cats and dogs and yeah sometimes Newt got a bloody nose—but they balanced the budget—a big win for the American people at that time.
I prefer he brings a large paddle with him
Maybe a few switches too.
This from the guy who admitted the he “melted” whenever Bill Clinton talked to him. Not to mention his obeisance to Nancy Pelosi.
If it shuts down and stays shut down until January 20th, the bureaucracy is going to have a really hard time getting all of that unspent “infrastructure” and “inflation reduction” money out the door.
