A hunt was underway tonight for a missing radioactive package which 'failed' to arrive at Madrid's Barajas Airport. Spain's Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) sounded the alarm this evening over the transport package with 'four radioactive sources' of 'very dangerous' category 2 Selenium-75. Local reports said the CSN had sent a team of inspectors to the airport to try to glean more information. It was not immediately clear how the transport container with the radioactive package had gone missing……
The International Atomic Energy Agency defines Category 2 on a scale of one to five as 'very dangerous for people because the radioactivity carries grave risks where material is not properly protected.

More missing nuclear material and this is much more dangerous.
It was expected to arrive in Madrid. That much seems clear.
But where was it coming from?
Article says ‘the outer packaging was broken’.
So what’s the story? Is the package lost, or just broken?
Sounds like more fear porn to me.
does this search involve drones?
A guy who manufactures drones said there appears to be a missing warhead from Ukraine. I dont remember details of where it disappeared
Taking Nuclear anything to an international airport is beyond dumb.
How much do those little GPS trackers cost?
To bad it wasn’t here in Georgia.. it would sit at the Atlanta USPS for months.. that would be a good thing.
It’s shocking that nuclear material can just go missing. This one and the other in NJ. I want to know if this is unusual or not. Either scenario is alarming though, so what gives?
Half-life: 119.8 days
Emissions: Principal emissions are 136 keV and 265 keV x-rays.
Half-Value Layer: 0.02 mm lead; 2 cm in tissue (The half-value layer is the amount of material required to reduce the radiation intensity by 50%.)
I would not rate this as a terrible problem. Low energy and quick half life.
“To bad it wasn’t here in Georgia.. it would sit at the Atlanta USPS for months.. that would be a good thing.”
LOL!
Most big hospitals have tons of the stuff in their basements. Nobody even guards it. Once every few months some gov-weenie comes by and looks at the paperwork and signs off on its quantity and condition.
No clue on where it flew into Madrid from. Our government is obviously looking for something dangerous. My wife told me Trump was on TV this AM and wouldn’t give details, but said he wouldn’t be staying at his place in NJ….I think he’s been briefed, but couldn’t say because it’s all classified. I just saw this newest article before I left work.
The best reason to get out of the region, upwind, if there is a fire at your local hospital. The combustion of and that of surrounding materials, is what is disastrous.
The selenium 75 that was supposed to be in the container was GONE. Someone busted into it.
Quick! Put out a Harris Walz sign, a gay pride flag, and a few cases of Bud Light, if you expect to be asking FEMA, NRC, DOD, DHS, for any help in the event of a crisis.
Haahh! Guess where I work? In a large hospital with a nuke med department.
Which “Fast and Furious” movie is this?

To me he sounds like he knows, but is unable to really say much.
