In an interview on “Meet the Press,” President-elect Donald Trump outlined his plan for immigration policy, emphasizing deportation for those in the United States illegally. Trump expressed a commitment to removing illegal immigrants, starting with those who have committed crimes and expanding to others without specifying which crimes would be prioritized. This approach may also involve U.S. citizens choosing to leave with family members who are undocumented.
Trump’s stance reiterates a key aspect of his campaign platform. He also suggested terminating birthright citizenship via executive action, forecasting potential legal opposition.
Amid controversies surrounding family deportation, Trump spoke of treating families humanely, suggesting mixed-status families might opt to leave the country together instead of facing separation.
While addressing so-called “Dreamers,” Trump indicated a willingness to collaborate with Democrats. This group, comprising those who arrived in the U.S. without documentation as children and are covered under the ‘DACA’ program, might maintain their residency status.
These announcements come amidst record inward illegal immigration patterns during President Joe Biden’s government. Trump’s campaign had foregrounded stricter border controls, often highlighting crimes linked to illegal immigrants.
Hooray.
How, specifically, is he gonna do that?
Screw this. DACA is a made up Obama-era executive order and doesn't need to be respected or continued.
“Day 1” is shaping up to be my favorite day of all!!
3...2...1...
My thought also, this is not something he can do by EO, this takes a SC decision........good luck!
Yay! It’ll be ended for four years.
I guess it’s a start, so I’m not complaining.
No he’s not. That requires a Constitutional amendment. Really people, use your freaking heads.
Of course I do not watch Meet The Press but caught a glimpse of Fox running a short exemption, the woman propagandist had drooling hate coming from her eyes.
Not sure why agreed to be interviewed by the scum media.
The Supreme Court he has is likely the best he’ll get. Even if he gets to pick the successor to Clarence Thomas, who out there could fill his shoes?
The thought is that birthright citizenship is based on a faulty interpretation of the 14th amendment. If nothing else it could force the Supreme Court to make a ruling on the matter.
I’m watching Trump on MTP.
He’s BACK.
He rested.
The witch has not laid a glove on him.
How long is “Day One”?
No it doesn’t. It’s not in the constitution.
The clause they are using is not being applied properly. Scotus will have to make a ruling.
I don't know. The last time I read that part of the Constitution it seems that if you're born here, you are a citizen. I think there should be more to it than that, but I think that's the way it's written.
Maybe Trump's plan is to declare a change and wait for the lawsuits to bubble up to the Supreme Court and hope for a favorable ruling.
I think I'd prefer to propose a Constitutional Amendment to change the wording and, looking at the Electoral College map, I think there's a fairly good chance of success.
