CHARACTER

A wise person once said, "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing to him or for him." (author unknown) Columnist Ann Landers put it this way, "The best index of a person’s character is how he treats people who can do him absolutely no good." In the Christian Scriptures, the Apostle Paul talks about entertaining "angels unawares." (Hebrews 13:1) What these writers are talking about here is more than an act. It’s an attitude - about life, about people, and most importantly, about the dignity and worth of every person. They’re referring to a life-cultivated habit of treating others with kindness, compassion, generosity and charity. Our true measure is best demonstrated by how we treat those from whom we have nothing personally to gain or lose, in the world’s sense, that is. Allow me to illustrate.

Many years ago reporters gathered at a Chicago railroad station to await the arrival of a newly selected Nobel Prize winner. As the six-feet-four inches tall giant, with bushy hair and a large mustache, stepped off the train, anxious reporters gathered around him. Amidst flashing cameras, important officials extended their hands and voiced how honored they were to meet the Nobel Laureate. He thanked them and then, looking over the crowd, asked to be excused for a moment. With quick steps he walked through the crowd until he reached an elderly woman who was struggling with two large suitcases.

Easily picking up the two bags in his big hands, smiling all the while, he graciously and attentively escorted the woman to a bus. As he helped her aboard, he extended to her his warmest wishes for a safe journey. Meanwhile, the anxious crowd had tagged along behind him, watching and taking in his every move. Turning to them he said, "Sorry to have kept you waiting." The man was Dr. Albert Schweitzer, the world-famous missionary doctor who had spent his life helping the poorest of the poor in Lambarene, Africa.

Said a member of the reception committee to one of the reporters: "That’s the first time I ever saw a sermon walking."

Hi Kathy!
My God mother, Dr. Antonia Brico, was a close friend of Dr Albert Schweitzer.
She traveled from her home in Denver, CO to Lambarene many times.
My Mother, who had sung in Brico’s chorus, my brother and I would see her off at the piers in Manhattan. She always sailed on “Holland American” ships.
She and he had a very special relationship because of their love of J. S. Bach and his works.

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.

May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.

May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

Howdy, Kathy.

Yes, it’s warming back up to decent temps for the next week or so. YAY!!!! I’m glad to see the cold finally move out.
It’s not the first time it’s been colder here than up there. LOL It was definitely unpleasant the past few nights here. Sunny and 51 here today and that wasn’t too bad for getting out and about.

Not very pretty up there today but that didn’t stop folks from getting out to hit the ski slopes. A cam operator zoomed in on them for a few minutes. The sun tried to come out a few times over by the mountains this afternoon but the airports didn’t have much luck.

Howdy, luvie.

Still enjoying decent weather? Cool but not real cold?
We’re finally on the upswing, and are supposed to get some decent rain tomorrow night. *fingers crossed*

Yes, pretty chilly but not miserable. Tomorrow & Monday it’s supposed to be in the high 60s, and then back down on Tuesday.

My fingers crossed also that you get some nicer weather for a while. Winter hit you WAY too soon!

You’ve been waiting a long time for cool weather. Be glad this arctic air slid down well east of you and you didn’t have to deal with the cold temps FL got.
I wish you could have gotten some of the rain the blew up over TX though. That’s on the way here now and will give us a dose tomorrow night.

Our temps look good for the next 10 days. A couple of days in the 40s but the rest are 50s, and they say mid 60s Monday. Today got up to 51. Another windy day tomorrow as the front moves in. *sigh*

Yes, what we’ve had was not uncomfortable at all, so I’m glad it missed us, too. We got a sprinkle sometime yesterday, but it wasn’t enough to measure. It has kept it cloudy, which I don’t mind at all.

I’m glad you’ll get a break...but the wind! Bah, humbug! I know for sure how tired you are of that! LOL!
