Around midmorning on Thursday, parents across Montana started receiving texts from their children that schools were in lockdown. Schools quickly confiscated students’ phones, and parents panicked as they couldn’t find out anything more about what was happening.
Schools statewide received threats of a suicidal person with a gun. Billings, Bozeman, Butte, Great Falls, and Kalispell all received threats.
Fortunately, there was no such gunman. The threatening phone calls originated from a foreign country, with schools receiving the same message. But the incident raises the question of what Montanans can do to keep schools safe . . .
Instead of using signs declaring that schools are gun-free zones, let’s put up signs warning attackers that select teachers have concealed handguns and are prepared to protect students.

Sounds like schools don’t ant the truth about how they’re mishandling school shootings to get out by students videoing the actual events and exposing the wrongdoing.
I’m not even going to call it incompetence, because what’s happened in school shootings recently goes well beyond incompetence like at Uvalde. That was deliberate malfeasance.
Require all teachers and staff to take the NRA Gun Safety Course or equivalent then get permits to carry if relevant. Then allow carry in school by teachers and staff. It is not necessary to require anyone to carry but it is necessary that it be known that they may carry. Signs should then be posted by entry doors that Administration staff and teachers may be armed. An armed resource officer is not enough. A shooter knows who to shoot first if that is a school’s protection.

I remember seeing a student with a handgun at school for Show and Tell back in 1956. An 1830s military pistol.
Today the schools for 30 miles around would go into lock down with panic among the parents, gun confiscated and destroyed.
Congress should pass a bill requiring that all “Gun-Free Zone” have a mandatory triage station inside the front door to the zone.
