Stanford researchers warn against charging electric vehicles at home overnight
MSN ^ | 5 December 2024 | Joseph Shavit

Posted on 12/06/2024 9:21:10 AM PST by Alas Babylon!

The study examined how EV growth in the western United States will impact the regional electric grid by 2035. If current trends persist, with the majority of charging occurring at home overnight, peak electricity demand could surge by up to 25%.

This increase would necessitate significant investments in new generation and storage capacity, likely involving natural gas—a counterproductive measure for decarbonization efforts.

Optimizing the placement of public charging stations has been a focus of research, but long-term solutions require accurate modeling of charging behaviors, including where, when, and how frequently drivers charge their vehicles.

How can they outlaw ICE vehicles in 6 years?

Apparently the unelected California Air Resources Board has the power to decree anything that might possibly affect air quality. To make things worse, several states have passed laws subjecting themselves to what ever C.A.R.B. rules. How or why the citizens of these states (or Californians for that matter) allow this is beyond me.

“ It was 13 degrees here last night. How long would a partial charge last in this weather?”

Why do you need a car?
Bicycles don’t need a charge.

Even Musk appears to be backing off from EVs based on present technology.

This is nuts. I would never buy an EV unless I had a home charging station. Having to wait like a slave at a public charging station? lolllllzzz

Future intent is for your car to be the store for the benefit of the state/utility. If it’s plugged into the charger at night, a lot of chargers have the ability to draw power off your battery and back on the grid.

It will take 30 years and trillions of dollars build the power generation capacity and electrical distribution system to charge large scale electrical car usage.

As if this matters to these kooky climate crusaders. Their motto is "Ya gotta believe!" What is the Gruesome Newsom mandate for California?

"California has implemented an ambitious mandate for zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) that will significantly transform the state's automotive landscape by 2035. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved the Advanced Clean Cars II rule in August 2022, which establishes a year-by-year roadmap to achieve 100% new zero-emission vehicle sales by 20351."

I am starting to wonder if this EV angle to the Green Energy Scam isn’t about a new push for Nuclear Power. The EVs represent a massive electrical drain that will justify the need for incredible increases in electrical power.

AI’s and Data Centers will need the electricity. You won’t get to drive, but that doesn’t matter to those who want the AI and Data Centers.

The electric car fiasco has nothing to do with environment - it's about limiting people's mobility and rationing usage.

Electric cars are great for light duty cycle urban and suburban travel in places like LA and San Francisco with very moderate, dry climates

Try driving one across Texas in the middle of the summer.

Nuclear power stations are great targets for an enemy missile to hit. This enemy must possess highly accurate missiles, which is difficult. Less difficult if the missile is carrying a nuke or nukes.

It’s been no secret that if everyone switched to an EV tomorrow the grid would melt. We’d need to upgrade all the transformers, build many new power stations, etc....and no, wind and solar aren’t going to get you there.

Friend of mine is on his condo board.

They have banned EVs from the condo building parking garage (it's under/attached to the residential building) after one disastrous fire. I understand three fire stations responded and could not put out the fire, only soaked down everything around it.

There is some of that. But for me, the main motivations are money. There are many who profit from these green new deals. Then you have the masses of dummies. The ideologues who belong to the climate religion. The decarbonization (I despise that word) religion.
Dummies + Green Capitalists. Many of whom exist only by government funding.

So far, not a single nuclear plant has been targeted or severely damaged in Ukraine. There are several and the only broken one is Chernobyl. You might think someone would try.

But it turns out, no one liked what happened in Chernobyl.

I think you have to be comfortable with nuclear war to want to start smashing open nuclear power plants.
