California Grants Only 5% Water Allocation as Drought Fears Rise
Breitbart ^ | 12/03/2024 | Joel B. Pollak

The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) has granted only 5% of the requested water allocations to agencies throughout the state, amid concerns about a hot summer and a possible return of drought in a dry winter.

The past two winters provided ample rain and snow to the state, resulting in an 100% allocation in 2023, and the reemergence of historic Tulare Lake in the heart of the Central Valley. But summer heat waves and predictions of a dry La Niña atmospheric winter suggest that rainfall could be low in the next few months, and drought could return.

The DWR said in a statement Monday:Today, the Department of Water Resources (DWR) announced an initial State Water Project (SWP) allocation forecast of five percent of requested supplies for 2025. The SWP provides water to 29 public water agencies that serve 27 million Californians.

The December initial water supply forecast is the first allocation of the new water year and is based on current reservoir storage and conservative assumptions for precipitation to come. For comparison, last year, the initial allocation for Water Year 2024 was 10 percent of requested supplies and it eventually increased to 40 percent by the end of the season.

The initial allocation forecast announced today does not take into account the series of strong storms that brought precipitation to above average across Northern California in the last two weeks of November. These storms will be taken into account along with other variables for future allocation updates. Prior to these storms, the start of the water year had been dry and warm

“… suggest that rainfall could be low…and drought could return.”

”Could”…. Well that certainly justifies practically cutting water off.

For what CA spent on their “High Speed Rail”, that still has yet to lay a single rail, CA could of build dams and impounded an additional 100,000 gallons of water to off set future droughts.

This is what happen when you let the cultists from the Church of Climate Change take over your state government.

They need to remove more dams/reservoirs. That will fix the issues.

Wet...dry...wet...dry...wet...dry

I seem to recall learning somewhere along the line that these things called “reservoirs” could help get through the dry years. Maybe CA should try some of those things.

The other 95% is going to be diverted to Death Valley in the hopes that long extinct fish will return.

It's all about perspective.

California has a population of about 39 million. Almost 2 million of which are illegal immigrants.

Think about that when CA grumbles about lack of water or other resources.

Meanwhile, Israel is using desalinization to produce more than 20% of the water it needs, for its population of about 10 million people. Imagine if California had been working on a project like that. But that would make sense.

Agreed.

“The Claude “Bud” Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant is the largest, most technologically advanced and energy-efficient seawater desalination plant in the nation. Each day, the plant delivers nearly 50 million gallons (56,000 acre-feet per year (AFY)) of fresh, desalinated water to San Diego County – enough to serve approximately 400,000 people and accounting for about one-third of all water generated in the County.”

When they get plenty of water then they don’t use it or store it. They send it out sea.

Which is almost literally a drop in the bucket.

California, for all their lofty talk about the environment, is the worst environmentally managed state in the Union. They suck in vast wealth in taxes for ostensibly environmental reasons, then blow it on trains to nowhere, sheltering illegals, and lining their pockets. They are our France.

With Kalifornia’s government mismanagement of almost everything and frequent droughts, I can see Kalifornia’s real estate becoming worthless.

People need water. Where there is little water few people live.

Kalifornia law prohibits individuals from collecting what little rain that falls for personal consumption.

If the state will not provide water and you are not permitted to provide for yourself, living is impossible.

My state hasn’t built a dam in 50 years. It has dismantled plenty. Over that time the population went from 20mil to 40 mil.
Thanks democrats.

They let all that Sierra snow melt run to the sea and they destroy dams. And they forbid desalination.

Clever bunch those Callies.

We can run water pipelines. We can build desalination. Instead we ration.

Thank you for posting MNJohnnie.

"For what CA spent on their “High Speed Rail”, that still has yet to lay a single rail, CA could of build dams and impounded an additional 100,000 gallons of water to off set future droughts."

I've got some California alleged taxpayer mismanagement (read fraud imo) references handy, the first items directly related to water management.

Californians approved billions for new water storage. Why hasn’t it gotten built? (Non-FR; 1.16.23)

Next, California elite Democrats should never have made the state a sanctuary for estimated 10.4 million thirsty undocumented Democrats imo. So it will probably significantly benefit California's water resources when hopeful Trump 47 sends illegal aliens home next year.

There's also this disturbing thread from 2022.

ENGINEERED FAMINE: California diverting water flows into the ocean, depriving rice farmers of necessary irrigation to grow food (5.31.22)

Also, the delta smelt evidently has more politically correct water rights in California than people and farmers do, evidenced by the following videos.

In fact, the first video clip shows hopeful Trump 47 express his concerns about California water politics v. smelt.

Donald Trump: Delta Smelt Crisis: The Hidden Truth Behind California's Water Shortage (non-FR)

The second video notes that the smelt hasn't been seen in the delta for the last six years, the third video mentioning that predators and food competitors are helping to reduce the number of smelts.

Miscellaneous examples of Democratic mismanagement (imo) of taxpayer dollars.

This is about reducing population. Ca fruits and vegies are going to get thin. If he had his way he would outlaw growing food altogether.
